RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities were on a manhunt Thursday for a former cop suspected of killing a Riverside police officer and critically injuring another.

Police were searching Thursday for 33-year-old Christopher Dorner, a former Los Angeles Police Department officer, after he was named a suspect Wednesday night in a double homicide in Irvine.

Authorities said the officers were stopped at a red light while on routine patrol around 1:35 a.m. Thursday when someone shot them.

“Two of our officers were involved in a shooting at the intersection of Arlington and Magnolia. Both officers were shot and transported to a local hospital. One was pronounced dead, the other one is currently in surgery and is in critical condition,” Officer Bryan Galbreath told KNX 1070.

The deceased officer was 34 years old and an 11-year veteran of the force. The 27-year-old injured victim is expected to make a full recovery, Riverside Police Chief Sergio Diaz said in a news conference Thursday.

The suspect is believed to be involved in another officer-involved shooting that took place shortly after 1 a.m. LAPD officers from the Newton division were following the suspect’s vehicle in Corona when the shooting took place near the Magnolia Avenue exit off the northbound Interstate 15.

“The suspect was out of his vehicle immediately with a shoulder weapon and started to shoot at the officers. The officers took cover, returned fire, both officers. One of our officers was grazed during that incident. The other officer is uninjured,” an LAPD spokesperson said. “He was treated here at the scene and released at the scene.”

Dorner is also suspected in the murders of Monica Quan, 28, and her 27-year-old fiancé Keith Lawrence on Feb. 4.

The couple was found fatally shot inside Lawrence’s Kia in the parking garage of their Irvine condo complex.

Authorities believe Dorner, a former U.S. Navy reservist, targeted the daughter of Capt. Randy Quan, in what police are calling a revenge killing.

Quan, who is now a retired LAPD officer, represented Dorner in a case that ultimately led to his termination for making false statements against another officer in 2008. He was hired by LAPD in early 2005.

KNX 1070′s Claudia Peschiutta reports the suspect posted a 20-page manifesto on Facebook saying, “I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I’m terminating yours.”

In the manifesto, Dorner said his life ended when the department fired him and it ended “again” when the Navy honorably discharged him on Feb. 2.

“I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief,” he wrote, “to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders. I know I will be villified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name.”

The LAPD has issued 40 priority details throughout the Los Angeles region to ensure the protection of officers mentioned in the manifesto and beyond, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said in a news conference Thursday morning.

“Our Department is implementing all measures possible to ensure the safety of our LAPD personnel, their families and the Los Angeles Community, and will continue to do so until Dorner is apprehended and all threats have been abated,” LAPD said in a statement.

Around 5:15 a.m. Thursday, an officer-involved shooting occurred in Torrance when a patrol assigned to a protective detail identified a truck similar to that of the suspect’s. Two people suffered gunshot wounds and are listed in minor and stable condition.

“Tragically, we believe this is a case of mistaken identity by officers,” Beck said.

Dorner attempted to steal a boat Wednesday night out of a San Diego harbor, but was unsuccessful, he said.

Around 2 a.m. Thursday, a passerby located Dorner’s ID along with a badge on Harbor Blvd. in San Diego, San Diego Police Department said. The badge has not been confirmed to be the suspect’s.

Dorner, of La Palma, is described as 6 feet tall, 270 pounds and “likely armed and dangerous.”

“He has multiple weapons at his disposal, including an assault rifle,” Beck said. “This is a vendetta against all of Southern California law enforcement, and it should be seen as such.

When told that Dorner had said the killings would stop only if police would publicly clear his name, Beck replied, “It is not gonna happen.”

Police say Dorner may be in a gray 2005 Nissan Titan with a roof rack, bed cover and aftermarket wheels, possibly black/chrome, license plate 8D83987 or similar. The vehicle may have a “Department of Defense” sticker on the front window.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911, Robbery-Homicide Division at (213) 486-6860, or LAPD’s 24-hour tipline at (877)LAPD-247.

This is foreshadowing of much more to come .. as the returning Vets crumble within the American Healthcare system, their Post Traumatic maladies will surface and such acts will become almost common place .. as was predicted when the USA went into Iraq .. hens coming home to roost ..

Conducting a manhunt LAPD style...

Hey looks like the suspect's vehicle, let's blast away.

As a result innocent people are shot. OOPSY

Los Angeles and Torrance police were involved in two shootings in Torrance early Thursday when police came across vehicles similar to the one sought by authorities in a massive manhunt for an ex-LAPD officer suspected of shooting three other officers.

Neither incident actually involved the suspect, said Torrance police Lt. Devin Chase. The suspect, Christopher Jordan Dorner, 33, was at large Thursday morning.

The first Torrance incident occurred about 5:20 a.m. in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue in Torrance, Chase said. That incident involved Los Angeles police detectives from the Hollywood division, sources said.

Two people were struck by gunfire and transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries, Chase said. No officers were injured.

The second incident, which involved Torrance police, occurred at Flagler Lane and Beryl Street about 5:45 a.m. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Chase said both incidents involved vehicles matching the description of the one sought in connection with Dorner.

"Now it appears neither of them are directly related," Chase said. "In both of them, officers believed they were at the time."

And by close I mean the suspect vehicle being sought was a blue/grey Nissan pickup truck with a big black guy driving whereas the truck that was riddled with bullets was reportedly a Toyota pick up occupied by two women delivering newspapers. Close eh???

Two women delivering newspapers were struck by gunfire. They were taken to area hospitals, Torrance police said.

One was shot in the hand and the other in the back, according to Jesse Escochea, who captured video of the victims being treated.

Police said the women were riding in a truck similar to the one that Dorner is believed to be driving — a blue or gray Nissan Titan.

Their blue pickup was riddled with bullet holes and what appeared to be newspapers were scattered in the street.

Sounds like this mistaken identity shooting of the two women deliver newspapers was a scene out of Bonnie and Clyde - but luckily no fatalities.

A murder suspect manhunt has led to two mistaken identity police shootings in Torrance Monday.

The first shooting occurred in the 19500 block of Redbeam Avenue at 5:20 a.m.

Authorities said officers came across vehicles similar to the one sought by authorities searching for Christopher Dorner, a former LAPD officer suspected of killing three people.

Dorner, 33, posted a manifesto on Facebook outlining plans to kill the families of those who wronged him. LAPD officers were guarding one of the officers on Dorner's manifesto hit list when a blue Toyota truck matching the suspect's vehicle drove up to the scene. Police opened fire and aimed dozens of rounds at the occupants of the truck who they mistakenly believed to be Dorner's.

Two uninvolved female civilians inside the vehicle were wounded and rushed to local hospitals. One injured female victim suffered a minor bullet wound, and the second female victim was shot twice in the back and reported in stable condition.

The victims are said to be OK but the barrage of bullets shook residents from their sleep. Howard Lee of Torrance was asleep when he said he heard "a lot of rapid fire."

According to surrounding residents, the women regularly deliver newspapers in the neighborhood.

LAPD Chief said the area was on heightened patrol due to Dorner's manifesto and the Inland Empire police officer shootings.

"The LAPD officers assigned observed a vehicle matching the suspect's vehicle driving down the street with the lights turned out," Beck said. "Officers approached the vehicle and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Tragically, we believe that this was a case of mistaken identity by the officers."

Like how mainstream media jumped on James Holmes (batman theater shooting) and claimed he was a Tea Party supporter..

Agreed, also suicides have become the #1 killer of US Military, not jihadi's..

Where did I refer to HIS military background? .. I am speaking to the general breakdown of society in the US due to many factors, including a massive number of returning Vets highly trained at killing people, who will NOT recieve adequate medical care and counceling ..

Here we have a man, who happes to lean toward the "progressive" side, who has lost all reason and will go out in a blaze of glory .. excpect many more of these incidents, including many that will include mentally ill Vets .. the carnage will reflect their training and access to effective firepower ..

America shall reap as it sows ..
