Big Time
Islanders traded a conditional 2nd rounder for either 2014 or 2015. This move doesn't make any sense. Why would they give such a high pick for Thomas? Did he say he would play this year? I would think that if anything, Boston would have to give the NYI a 2nd pick just to get out from the cap hit. DeNiro
Wtf? Why would the Islanders do that? He's not playing this year, and I doubt he plays for the Islanders next year. So what do they do with Dipietro now?
stexx
maybe the islanders wanted thomas's cap hit to reach the floor and then they can suspend him. or its a conditional based on him signing an extension.

stexx
Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday Move is cap-related -- #Isles needed to be over the floor by tomorrow, needed insurance against not being cap compliant the entire season. haha looks like i was right that is just sad they are giving up draft picks so they can avoid spending money. goalie13
An actual smart move by Garth Snow? They don't have to pay him, the cap hit doesn't affect them, and they get a 2nd rounder out of it. Nice one. Edit - My mistake. They gave up a 2nd rounder.
Dragonfruits
wow a 2nd round pick just to reach the floor get rid of all the people running the islanders and get some people that actually give a crap about the hockey this is a complete joke unless they somehow get thomas to play next year which i highly doubt also they should just get rid of the floor already
Niloc009
NY Islanders, home of the washed up, former elite goaltenders! Featuring former Sharks star Evgeni Nabokov, Boston College alum and 1st overall draft pick Rick Dipietro, and now, the Conn Smythe winning, tea partying, Chick-Fil-A loving Tim Thomas! DeNiro
And Boston gets out from under his 5 million dollar cap hit. Meaning they can make their team even more dominant. That team has to be one of the luckiest teams in the league.
Common sense
Trading high draft picks just to reach the cap floor. I feel sorry for the remaining dozen Islanders fans out there.
theminister
Since Thomas won't resign anyway it doesn't cost the Isles anything. I can imagine the rest of the East is pissed though as Boston now has cap space to use at the deadline....as if their roster wasn't good enough already.
