Jeff and Jennifer Counceller thought were doing the right thing when they saved the life of an injured baby deer they found near their home in Indiana. But because they didn't have a permit, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is prosecuting them and they could face up to 60 days in prison.

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

Common sense and laws often don't mix.

If you like looking at statistics to determine who's better, you're just a casual fan.

2.41 season GAA isn't very impressive. Let's not get into playoffs and his SV%.

Cory Schneider is the next Patrick Roy.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

And Canada as well:

Yesterday, the Westerly News reported on a local woman receiving pressure from BC's Ministry of Environment to release a deer she has kept as a pet for the past 10 years.

Janet Schwartz told the Westerly News she received notification from the ministry through a letter, delivered to her residence by hand on Tuesday, that tells her she must release her pet deer, Bimbo, immediately or will face charges.

Or just shoot the deer as in Manitoba:

People at a Manitoba Hutterite colony are shocked after conservation officers shot a deer they had adopted.

Mike Hofer said he heard a gunshot Saturday on the Windy Bay Hutterite colony near the community of Pilot Mound. He followed the sound and turned a corner to see the deer bucking on the ground.

Hofer said the Manitoba Conservation officers told the colony members they weren't allowed to domesticate wild animals.

Honestly, the deer population has exploded to the point of becoming pests. But of course saving a baby deer's life doesn't deserve jail time. Idiots down there.

After more than 150,000 people signed John Waudby's petition, criminal charges against Jeff and Jennifer Councellor have been dropped!
The county prosecutor had filedcharges against the couple for not having a permit to keep a deer they had rescued with serious injuries -- even though the Councellors had tried several times to find a home for it and obtain a permit for it from the Department of Natural Resources.

When John heard about the Councellors in the news, he started a petition on Change.org calling on the prosecutor to drop criminal charges against the Councellors. Within just a few days, an overwhelming number of people had signed it, contributing to the charges being completely lifted this week.

This is one of these cases where the general intent of the law (wild animals remain in the wild) needs to be applied in the particular case and fact situation with discretion.
