Feel free to discuss any illness you have had.

I'm just near the tail end of a whopper.
Apparently this has been going around the Okanagan...

Let me describe the sickness I just had.
First, try to remember the worst flu you ever had.
Next, remember the worst cold you ever had.
Then, remember the worst cough you ever had.
Now imagine having those all at the same time.
But wait, let me get downright descriptive.
You know that taste you get right before you're about to throw up?
Imagine having that for at least 3 days straight.
You can barely eat, cause you "think" it won't stay down plus everything tastes so bad.
Your fever gets so high that you have hallucinations (yes, I saw a white light).
You feel your heart just a pounding and wonder if it will be able to take it.
The headaches are so bad that it feels like the acetaminophen isn't doing anything at all.
You have that fever but you also feel cold - hot and cold at the same time.
It comes in waves, like a fishing boat off the coast of Newfoundland being rocked by 30 foot squalls.
The cough isn't normal at all.
It lasts for 5 to 20 seconds, it's violent and uncontrollable.
When done, it feels like someone has kicked you in the chest and broke some of your ribs.
That happens several times a day.
Speaking of your body, it feels like you've just run a marathon, every muscle is sore as well as you got pain in your joints. Some of your muscles actually spasm, twitch uncontrollably for a few seconds.
Your cognitive ability is degraded. That is, you can't seem to think very well nor understand what someone says all the time.
Remember how slow the Ents (tree creatures) were in Lord of The Rings?
You're a sick Ent. You're lying on the couch and you feel like you want something to drink.
10 minutes later, you're still on the couch. Eventually, you get up and slowly make your way to the kitchen.
If you're lucky, you don't have one of those violent coughing attacks while you're carrying your glass of Fresca back to the living room - for there's no way you will be able to hold on to it.
You will also spend a significant amount of time in the bathroom - but I won't go into details there.
Supposedly, this "super" bug lasts 3-7 days.

I've had a killer sore throat for the last week. Today is the first day I felt like I haven't been eating lightbulbs.

I have felt pretty tired, had low energy, and had a bit of a cough at times - but fortunately that's about it.

Cinnamon and Honey

Drug companies won't like this one getting around. Facts on Honey and Cinnamon:
It is found that a mix of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also note honey as very effective medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects which is also a plus.Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Researched by western scientists:

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, put it on toast instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol and could potentially save one from heart attack. Also, even if you have already had an attack studies show you could be kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of cinnamon honey strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as one ages the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and the veins.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients can benefit by taking one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken daily even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder....who knew?

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol-could be cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses, and it's delicious too!

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomach ache and also is said to clear stomach ulcers from its root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India and Japan, it is revealed that when Honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacterial and viral attacks. Scientists have found that honey has various vitamins and iron in large amounts. Constant use of Honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles (where DNA is contained) to fight bacterial and viral diseases.

INDIGESTION: Cinnamon powder sprinkled on two tablespoons of honey taken before food is eaten relieves acidity and digests the heaviest of meals

INFLUENZA: A scientist in Spain has proved that honey contains a natural 'Ingredient' which kills the influenza germs and saves the patient from flu.

LONGEVITY: Tea made with honey and cinnamon powder, when taken regularly, arrests the ravages of old age. Use four teaspoons of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and three cups of boiling water to make a tea. Drink 1/4 cup, three to four times a day. It keeps the skin fresh and soft and arrests old age. Life spans increase and even a 100 year old will start performing the chores of a 20-year-old.

RASPY OR SORE THROAT: When throat has a tickle or is raspy, take one tablespoon of honey and sip until gone. Repeat every three hours until throat is without symptoms.

PIMPLES: Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the pimples before sleeping and wash it off the next morning with warm water. When done daily for two weeks, it removes all pimples from the root.

SKIN INFECTIONS:Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin Infections.

WEIGHT LOSS:Daily in the morning one half hour beforebreakfast and on an empty stomach, and at night before sleeping, drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup of water. When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also, drinking this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body even though the person may eat a high calorie diet.

CANCER: Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.

FATIGUE: Recent studies have shown that the sugar content of honey is more helpful rather than being detrimental to the strength of the body. Senior citizens who take honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts are more alert and flexible. Dr. Milton, who has done research, says that a half tablespoon of honey taken in a glass of water and sprinkled with cinnamon powder, even when the vitality of the body starts to decrease, when taken daily after brushing and in the afternoon at about 3:00 P.M., the vitality of the body increases within a week.

BAD BREATH: People of South America, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water first thing in the morning so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

HEARING LOSS: Daily morning and night honey and cinnamon powder, taken in equal parts restores hearing.

Try having that when you're on a car trip to the Island and you still have to drive all the way back to the Sunshine Coast. You go from the initial thinking you're going to die to wishing you would. And then that point where you just wish someone would kill you. I barely remember that trip from Port Alice to Sechelt.....head in a bucket......the worst headache of my life (and I get the rare migraine that makes you pray for death. This was worse).....having to crawl out of the car to the motel room door in Powell River on hands and knees because it hurt too much to stand up.....coughing that makes your head feel like it's going to explode (and you wish it would 'cause it would have to feel better, right?) ........sore abdominal muscles that were there for 3 weeks due to..well, you can guess.......no pain relief because you have to keep it down long enough for it to work, right?) ....lost 15 pounds I could ill afford to....... and then had to fly back to PG and another hour and half ride home. Two day trip..........one just to get to Vancouver and hotel it, and then one to fly home. Worst. Experience. Of. My Life. My mom and sis wanted to deke into every Emergency room from PA to PR on that trip.

F.U. ... H1N1......

Feel better soon, Heretic! I sympathize greatly! :)

I've already been bit by the flu bug this year....bad enough it was but I just compare it to the experience above and thank my lucky stars it's not a repeat occurrence of the Flu From Hell.

I spent some time the last couple of days hovering over boiling pot of water to clear congestion. I was thinking of adding cinnamon to the pot.
Might give that a try next time. :)

A couple cups of hot water with cinny and honey really helped my sore throat and some congestion.

Tea tree oil in a bowl of hot water and a towel over your head and face help clear up congestion too.

i had a fever earlier in the week, a fly could've knocked my ass out, lots of rest in bed and tylenol extra strength helped me get somewhat back to normal 24-32 hours later.

Heretic, man, what beast of a flu... Damn...

Last September, I had the worst flu I've ever had in my life, it didn't make me puky it just made every muscle in my body feel like it was on fire, and the fever, oh man the fever! I could barely lift a limb, it felt as though I had worked 7 straight 18 hour days of intense pshyical labour, just no energy. And a sore throat for the ages!

The worst part was on the 4th night I was just laying in bed hoping for the sweet release of sleep and I could have sworn I was going to die that night! I thought my heart was going to fail me, but I couldn't get up, my muscles wouldn't even allow me to sit up let alone stand up and move, and my throat was so sore I couldn't talk anyway.

Luckily that was the worst night, I started feeling much better after that, it was like the virus' last ditch, all out offence on my body! :P

AS I have not been sick since Oct 2009 I am counting myself very lucky as everyone on the planet seems to be ravaged by one flu or another right now. I had a fever for a bout 2 days, no hacking cough, no vomiting(thank goodness), no massive headaches. Whew ! Crazy thing is when I get sick I am usually laid up for a week minimum ! Started taking a few Cold-fx daily as I was noticing the practical plague of flu victims here in Calgary. I have been doing this for quite sometime during the cold n flu season. It really has diminished the force and duration of this flu for me. Honestly I take a few Oil of oregano drops everyday in water or juice and I swear this has protected me from any severe sickness over the past 4 years. Unlike all other remedies you can take this before during after any sickness and you will not develop immunity or saturate your system. Hope everyone in this thread feels better ASAP ! Bundle up and lots of fluids :D

wow thats crazy. Home sick today and decide to log into CDC for a distraction only to see someone started a thread about the same flu/cold/fever I have. Been sick since Thursday. Yesterday I was really cold and all my muscles hurt, today I feel feverish and my throat is so sore I can barely talk. Go figure.

Get well soon OP.

The worst sick I ever had was that stupid norwalk virus. I remember laying in bed, wanting Gravol, so instead of waking up my husband, I ventured to get downstairs to get some. I collapsed half way down the stairs, fighting off losing consciousness (very dehydrated from not keeping anything down), I lay there for a while, crying, then finally got some energy to make it the rest of the way down the stairs, where I laid on the floor. Crawled to the pantry and tried many times to stand up to reach the Gravol. Finally got it, laid down again (passed out that time, I think). Took the Gravol and somehow crawled back up the stairs to bed, crying and literally thinking I wasn't going to make it to morning - I was sure I'd kick off.
My husband was NOT impressed that I didn't wake him!

This winter, I've avoided all the flu/colds that have been going around (knock on wood).

Growing up I never got sick. I got a cold like everyone else during the years, but only had the flu once in grade 2 where I had to miss school.

I had a kid almost 3 years ago and have had some sort of stomach virus or something 3 times.

1st time both my wife and I were puking our guts out and I had to miss 3 days of work. I had to have my mom pick up our kid who was about 8 months old at the time.

The other time was about a month ago, but it was just me and it lasted less then 24 hours. That was over the weekend so I didn't miss any work.
