[Rumour/Speculation] Capitals may try to trade Ovechkin

Recommended Posts

What I see more likely is a shake-up than trading their biggest star; despite his struggles.

GMMG showed interest in Brouwer the day he was traded, but WSH had the higher 1st IIRC. Things have changed, but Brouwer would be an awesome addition IMO.

.. Raymond's value is probably at a high right now..

Mason Raymond + _________ for Troy Brouwer

Imagine Luongo for Ovechkin straight up, maybe some depth players and prospects to even it up.

Sedin - Sedin - Ovechkin

Burrows - Kesler - Booth

Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen

Higgins - Lapierre - Kassian

Sick depth, and if anyone's going to re-kindle Ovi it's the twins. He's got the size to protect the Sedins as well, basically a far better Kassian, even if he is in a 2 season slump.

Ovechkin would be almost impossible to move for many reasons.

1. Contract. It's huge and is not producing anywhere close to the value of his contract.

2. He is the Washington Capitals. He brought people back their and got them back into hockey.

3. Return. Trading him, the face of the franchise will require the return for him to have a lot of "name value". Will any team give A level prospects for him?

4. Teams interested. It would have to be a team that goes to the cap. Would those teams want to pay such a likely steep price and cap hit.

5. Cap shrinking. If a team can't afford him now capwise, it's going to be harder for the next few seasons.

With that being said, their might be some teams out there but I don't think it would be contenders. Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto I see as possibilities. All have richer owners, all need a jolt of excitement around the team.

Calgary

Cammalleri, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Winnipeg

Kane FOR Ovechkin

Montreal

Kessel, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Montreal

Cole, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Washington will probably want way more but no team will offer him much more than that.
