I could see him going back to Russia. He would make more money and be at home.

Nonis's chance to save the Maple Leafs!!

Toronto's next 10 1st round picks

for

Ovechkin

That kind of deal would have only worked before Dec. 21st 2012

Tru dat. Though, he would have to be bought out for that to happen. And if he's bought out, he would have about 29 NHL teams bidding for his services.

Has there ever been a superstar that has faded away this dramatically? (without injury being the cause)

i dont think he has huge trade value. his play is no were near the worth of 9.5m cap hit for how many years

if he was producing like 4 years ago then yes but now, i dont think he could fetch an absurd overpayment from another team

Ovechkin can still put the fans in the seats, for that reason a team like the NYI would be smart to make a play for him.

I know what you mean, it seems like he lost a lot of motivation.

He will do that, but i wouldnt want us to make a move for him with the way hes producing now. his production is at a 3-5m per season player. I couldnt justify over paying for him at his recent play, not to mention it would deplete our team and any depth we had

Although he would have every opportunity to score with the twins cause they dont shoot

I wouldn't mind the Canucks throwing something out there for OV.
Luongo, maybe a Ballard and/or Booth.... pretty much Washington giving up top-end for more 2nd-line depth.

Luongo + Ballard + Kassian for Ovechkin?

They wouldn't have to buy him out, he could just leave and the KHL would probably just ignore his NHL contract like usual. Maybe there are other options but WSH could then suspend him and get rid of his cap hit.

C'mon if it was doable under the cap, it would be something you would have to think about. So we load up on ELC's its about time we got some new blood in here anyway.

What I see more likely is a shake-up than trading their biggest star; despite his struggles.

GMMG showed interest in Brouwer the day he was traded, but WSH had the higher 1st IIRC. Things have changed, but Brouwer would be an awesome addition IMO.

.. Raymond's value is probably at a high right now..

Mason Raymond + _________ for Troy Brouwer

Can anyone imagine this:

PP #1:

Kesler-Sedin-Sedin
Ovechkin-Edler

Devastating.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

It's a good thing they got that 7th round pick for Vokoun. It'll really come in handy.

Imagine Luongo for Ovechkin straight up, maybe some depth players and prospects to even it up.

Sedin - Sedin - Ovechkin
Burrows - Kesler - Booth
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Higgins - Lapierre - Kassian

Sick depth, and if anyone's going to re-kindle Ovi it's the twins. He's got the size to protect the Sedins as well, basically a far better Kassian, even if he is in a 2 season slump.

Throw Ballard in, get some picks in return to balance it up. Very do-able cap-wise.

But then we wouldn't have "sick depth". We'd have Alberts or Barker playing every night.

Ovechkin would be almost impossible to move for many reasons.

1. Contract. It's huge and is not producing anywhere close to the value of his contract.

2. He is the Washington Capitals. He brought people back their and got them back into hockey.

3. Return. Trading him, the face of the franchise will require the return for him to have a lot of "name value". Will any team give A level prospects for him?

4. Teams interested. It would have to be a team that goes to the cap. Would those teams want to pay such a likely steep price and cap hit.

5. Cap shrinking. If a team can't afford him now capwise, it's going to be harder for the next few seasons.

With that being said, their might be some teams out there but I don't think it would be contenders. Calgary, Winnipeg, Montreal and Toronto I see as possibilities. All have richer owners, all need a jolt of excitement around the team.

Calgary

Cammalleri, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Winnipeg

Kane FOR Ovechkin

Montreal

Kessel, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Montreal

Cole, 1st FOR Ovechkin

Washington will probably want way more but no team will offer him much more than that.
