10 games in... Lu's trade value has never been higher.

But I don't want him traded.

Not to take anything away from your other points (which I agree with) but 6-2-2 is 2 games above .500.

Big Red...it's been a long time since I was in grade school, but I remember 6 minus 2 equals 4. Last time I checked, OT/SO loss still gave us a point, so technically, it's a loss, but qualifies as .500 hockey which makes it a wash.

Anyways, I get what you're saying...a loss is a loss whether it's regulation or OT/SO.

The top 4 D men have looked good sometimes and mediocre at others but the emergence of the shut down pairing of Tanev and Ballard has no doubt eased that burden.

I agree with most of your points and Tanev and Ballard really have stepped it up in the last few games, all thought I wouldn't describe them as a shutdown pair. That is one thing we still lack IMO is a true shutdown defensive pairing. We have 3 solid pairs when they are on their game, but not a real top pairing.

I agree with every point made except for PK. That should be better considering the defensive specialists we have on our team, even with Kesler injured. I would also like to see the coaches telling the boys to move their sticks when plugging the lanes, NHL players are too skilled these days to worry about a stick simply laying in the passing lane. Move it around, make him guess!

You're right Kryten...after looking up the stats, we're ranked 20th in PK...here's one part of the Canucks game that can be improved upon.

Ok. I see where you are coming from.

I was actually treating the OT/SO losses as a wash, in which case a 4-4-2 record would be .500 and 6 less 4 is 2, so I have them as two games above .500

But it's a nit picky point, I agree it's your other points, so I can just agree to disagree on this one.

To take this discussion in another direction, what are the general feelings towards each game being worth 3 points (i.e., similar to WJC)?

3 points for regulation win; 2 points for OT/SO win; 1 point for OT/SO loss; 0 point for regulation loss.

My feeling is that this is a more accurate representation of standings. This may provide quantitative support to BigRed's point; and the Canucks would have 4 X 3 = 12 points; 2 x 2 = 4 points; 1 x 2 = 2 points for 16 points out of a possible 30 (10 games x 3) for winning pct. of .600. That may better reflect how the Canucks have played in the first ten games...

What do you think?

Yeah but you can`t just take games out to make the stats say something else. I`m sure every team this year has some high scoring games, thats why it is called an average. I could just take out the games we allowed the fewest goals to show the opposite argument haha. I think our scoring is doing just fine. And yes I completely agree about Luongo, He has been our best player in my opinion

My point wasn't that we have no offense, and I didn't erase the two blowouts or anything. What I was trying to make clear was that in 80% of the games we have been struggling to score consistently. I know we are still capable of scoring multiple goals, but generally it is weak. Call the two games outliers if you will, as extrapolation suggests that we will fall back down to 2nd or 3rd in the division in another 10 games if Lu and Schneids don't continue to post 2.00 GAA.

Pretty good for no 2nd line, fading twins and 2 disgruntled goalies.

well considering Cory and Lu are both furious with management, kesler hates the city, kassian is only leading the team in goals by 1 so he is a major concern and not the big gritty RWer we need in the top six.. id say we are due to lose the next 12 straight unless Gillis is finally willing to hit the panic button and starts making trades.

I actually prefer that system. I think it makes sense that an OT/SO win would be worth less than a regulation win.

But I can't see the NHL adopting it any time soon.

Best start to the season since Gillis took charge.

Yea, I'd say we're doing alright.

Vancouver is and has been a team that succeeded through very capable net minding.

Until Gillis blows it up this Canucks team is the same as every team Luo has led out of the wilderness.

I wonder if playing during the lockout was all it was cracked up to be.

I thought the Sedins might be a bit better. But the Canucks winning low scoring games is exactly what I expected with their deep defence and extremely strong goalie tandem. Their record is as strong as it is because of the great goaltending. I wasn't panicked by the first games and I'm not getting carried away with their winning streak either.

Still a few things need to be in place (the PP, PK) but as a team, the Canucks look to be playing pretty good. It looked a slow start was coming, but it never happened
It only takes one hard fought series to make a rivalry

Agreed. But is anyone else concerned that the Sedins may have peaked (and be in long term decline), and we have no prospects to replace them in the long run?
