I'm down. We could use more prospects like Jurco.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Yeah lets downgrade our defense significantly in a year we are going all out for a cup just to add a Boom-Bust prospect.

Great logic behind this deal.

I think he means for this to be a draft day deal. However if not, we could offer sheet O'Reilly to Ballard's current contract as we have the depth on D.

It's a superior alternative to buying him out after the season.

I am also going to to go out on a limb and assume MG might be looking at a right side defender in the Schneider Luo sweepstakes. one can dream John Carlson... but I would be happy with less and some blue chip forward prospects with minimal salary coming back.

Not interested in trading any D-men right now, having 3 top 4 pairs is a huge asset, taking one out destroys that huge advantage and creates a large hole in our depth.

Draft day, sure.

If Ballard keeps this play up he will be worth something decent on Draft Day. (If he is the guy we chose to move)

It's a superior alternative to buying him out after the season.

I see, if it's an offseason move I'm on board.

My mistake, I apologize for being sassy.

No. We don't need Jurco. Ballard's playing really well in the 3rd line.

I love the game Ballard brings to the table. He's playing like he did in he desert and I hope we find a way to keep him.

He needs to stay through the playoffs at least/

I really love the Ballard-Tanev pairing. They can play against any line on the opposing team as they have developed chemistry.

Give him another chance, even though he's not worth the $4.2M I'm sure he'll do better in this short season than the previous years.

If we were to buy out Ballard at the end of the season, could we re-sign him for cheaper? I like the guy as a bottom pairing d-man, but he's not worth the 4.2 million

We should keep "Ballsy", buy him out in the summer, then re-sign him for around $2 mil less cause i really like how he is playin this year

As far as I know, that is permissible. But Ballard may well be insulted. And another team would likely have a spot for him in their top-4, and be willing to pay him accordingly.

i do this trade for sure. if we could get a pick on top that be better

we have other d men who can step up, or we have trading assets to get a d man aswell.

Other than the fact that is is expressly prohibited in the CBA.....a team cannot sign a player they bought out for 1 calender year.

I don't think O'Reilly's even worth over 4M. Maybe, 3.8 or 3.9.

Can't buyout Ballard and resign him. Not only would that be a dick move but its strictly prohibited by the league. I personally like Edler on the left side with Tanev or another calming Right side defenceman acquired in a goalie trade. In which case Tanev would be paired with Garri which I think would be much better than Ballard Tanev.

Ballard has looked good this season which is why we might be able to get something for him and avoid buying him out. But I believe Tanev has played better than Ballard.

"OH Reilly" I think hes a bit more than the canucks can afford unless he was willing to just sign for this season and go ufa again.

I would be intrigued by a deal involving Paul Postma from the Jets ++. for D Schnide. He would be a good fit for Garri I think if he could stay with the team. We also still have Alberts and Vander as depth if more truculence is needed. We would retain Ballard until the off season and possibly pick up a guy like Jurco for him.
or
John Carlson would be ideal in a Luongo deal.
Edler Carlson
Ham Juice
Garri Tanev
Alberts Vander *Cough*Barker
Would be a great defence core for D Schnide to have the best chance at success. as well as Jensen and to a lesser extent Shredder and Kass.

Colorado has the cap space to re-sign O'Reilly, but what if $4.2 mill is not what the Avs think Ryan is worth?

If the Avs don't think he's worth it then why would we want to spend more as a team spending to the cap already to acquire him? The only way an offer sheet like that would work was if the Avs just couldn't afford the real money it would take to sign him to a deal that we could, but again we'd still have cap issues next year when we have to shed over $6M to get under the $64M ceiling.\

Sorry, back to Ballard. I can see if we bring in a defenceman in another deal that could fill that depth role just as well for cheaper (as we'll need to explore that option for next season) that we could move Ballard for something else. Otherwise I don't see it although it is something that will come up sooner rather than later.

If we aren't moving Ballard for Brendan Smith as a direct replacement (not saying we could, but he's a young D on a cheaper contract ready for the NHL, and if we could we should see if they'll take Booth for Nyquist or Tatar as well!), then we'd have to find better depth in our D elsewhere.
