SPORTSNET SIGNS 10-YEAR CANUCKS DEAL

Posted Image

Sportsnet Staff | February 12, 2013, 12:19 pm

VANCOUVER -- Sportsnet announced Tuesday it has reached a 10-year partnership extension with the Vancouver Canucks through the 2022-23 NHL season, continuing a 14-year network tradition as the regional television broadcaster of Canucks hockey.

The new agreement, which begins with the 2013/14 season, features a comprehensive suite of multimedia rights including television, online and mobile, delivering up to 60 regular season Vancouver Canucksgames each season.

In addition, Canucks This Week, the 30-minute weekly show providing in-depth coverage of the team throughout the season, will also continue as part of the new multimedia package.

"The Vancouver Canucks are a premium Canadian sports franchise and we are thrilled to continue this strong and important partnership," said Scott Moore, president, broadcast, Rogers Media. "This landmark agreement furthers our commitment to serving Canucks fans and connecting with our B.C. audience like never before, as well as providing a diverse portfolio of sports assets and content to our viewers. It also reinforces Rogers’ and Sportsnet’s continued investment in sports to drive future growth."

Sportsnet has been broadcasting Canucks games since the network’s inception in 1998.

"This is a significant partnership agreement for the Canucks and Sportsnet," said Victor de Bonis, chief operating officer, Canucks Sports & Entertainment and alternate governor, NHL. "As a valued, long-term partner it was important for us to continue providing in-depth feature coverage, and quality game broadcasts to our fans through Sportsnet broadcasts."

This season, Sportsnet will deliver 34 regular season Canucks games on television – more than any other broadcaster – as well as more Canadian NHL team games on TV, in addition to coverage across radio, digital and print.

Sportsnet is the official regional television broadcast rights holder for the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames (including radio rights on Sportsnet 960 The FAN), Edmonton Oilers, Ottawa Senators, andToronto Maple Leafs (including radio rights on Sportsnet 590 The FAN).

Some Canucks player reaction.

Still prefer TSN over Sportsnet any day.

If TSN aired more games and had a HD channel, it would certainly be the best, But it has neither. They did do the olympics though, so i give them that.

I think there's too many games on Sportsnet, and too few games on TSN.

I'm pretty sure TSN has an HD channel.

Edit: I have it on channel 225.

CBC is absolute crap. Jim Houston is the only good part of the entire corporation.

I like TSN, but prefer SNet. The thing I like about SNet is that they lay out the facts and base their opinions on them. TSN feeds a little too much into the dramas and controversies.

CBC is just totally brutal.

Ditto.

Shorthouse is the best play-by-play announcer; he actually calls the play (unlike CBC or TSN).

I wish Sportsnet did all the Canucks games and we would not have to put up with Ron McLean, Craig Simpson, etc.

And Garrett sees the play better than anyone and is the best colour guy.

They are both homers too, and I like that a lot more than all the Eastern bias of CBC and TSN.

They just did a deal with UFC! Well a while back
TSN has quality while Sportsnet has Quanity.

CBC > SNet > TSN > Team 1040
CBC - Free live streaming and quality intermission spots. Awesome SC coverage
SNet - Shorty and that guy who has insightful Kraft cooking tips
TSN - I guess they have HD so that's nice
Team 1040 - Gives you the game when at work or driving

TSN > All other sports channels. TSN is the god of sports channels.

Okay guys, I have something to say that I've been holding in for a while...

I HATE SPORTSNET. I FRIGGIN HATE IT. I ALSO HATE SHORTHOUSE AND GARRET.

Phew. Man that felt good. I know pretty much every single person here loves these guys but I don't like them. They bore the living crap out of me. Honestly I don't even want to watch Canuck games when these guys are doing the commentary. I miss when Hughson did the Canucks. He was, and still is, awesome.

So yeah. BRING ON THE HATE!!!!!!

Agree with Shorthouse, I like Garret though. I catch myself passing out while Shorty is calling the game just some things about his voice I dont like. Snet broadcasts would be much better if we got a replacement for Shorty.

Dude, you're going to miss out on quality tips like how adding hotdogs to KD really brings the meal to a new level. where else are you going to learn such things? Peanut butter on rice cakes?! Brilliant!@

Plus, on SNet you get treated to those Midas Muffler commercials with Shorty (does TSN have those?) which equates to less commercial and more Shorty and more Shorty = more game commentator which = more game.

Logics

And his sidekick who has the mutant ability to add "The Great", "The Beautific One" "The ____ One", " _____anator" to virtually any player's name; past, present or future.
Does TSN have that?! I think not.

I like Sportsnet just because of Canucks games. I absolutely hate John Shannon and Gary Valk. Those guys know NOTHING about hockey. I don't care if you played the game Gary Valk, you are pretty bad at your job.

TSN is the best out of all 3 but I like both Sportsnet and TSN and CBC. As long as they give me good games, I don't really care.
