If he's done I hope he stays to help out on the bench. If he keeps playing it will be for league minimum.

I think his playing career is either done after this season, or some young team with a lack of depth signs him for a year or two. Don't think he's going to still be playing for the Canucks.

It really is unfortunate what that eye injury did to Manny. He's been a leader on the Canucks and a role model for Vancouver since he's been here, and though he's only been here 3 seasons, I've really grown to like and respect the guy.

It'd be cool if he continues to do work within the organization later in his career.

he's still a beast faceoff wise but the coach has lost confidence of his offensive ability , he'll take a draw and get rid back on that bench

Perfect response! Plus one.

His NHL career is over, sad but true. He's a great guy and an awesome leader. Hope we can give him a job in management

He will be resigned but for less. You people underestimate the leadership and character he brings to the team. Additionally, you can't complain about his faceoff and defensive abilities which are both huge for this team.

You guys seem to be forgetting that he's one of our best PKers, and is a really defensively solid player. He's a pretty good fourth liner, he just isn't bringing much in the way of offensive flair. That's partly because of how AV uses him, too. Take a faceoff, get the puck out of the zone, and change up for a more offensive player.

Manny has a few things going against him...

(1) At 32 years of age, time is enemy...MG is on record stating he wants the team to get younger
(2) Yet to play at pre-injury level
(3) Passed by the likes of Lapierre and Schroeder on the depth chart

Manny has some strong attributes still going for him...

(1) Strong leadership skills
(2) Age...as much as it is a liability, it's also an asset -- experience means something
(3) Still one of the best face-off men in the league
(4) Versatility...he can play center or left wing
(5) Decent size...even though he doesn't play a belligerent style, he's still 6'2" and 220 lbs. Solid by NHL standards.

Manny, with the Canucks, unfortunately becomes a depth player on the bottom six, more likely bottom 3. Price tag for players such as this is $650K to $1.0MM. If Manny is prepared to take such a pay cut, I say we keep him...otherwise, as unfortunate as it is, we may have to let him go. Knowing how respected he is by the Canucks brass, he may be around for $1.25MM. I'd like for that to happen.

Though he had a huge eye injury, he's still only 32. He could recover and get a few decent years in, yet.

looks like he is done here, and possibly done overall. He has no more offensive skill and is stuck on the fourth line regardless. What i wont take away from him is his face-off ability.

Ideally, we sign him to a 1/2 year deal at a discount. Still a big, fast skater who consistently is one of the league's top faceoff men, and is only a few years removed from being a Selke contender.

I'd keep him at 1.5 if we could afford it, if not then I guess he would have to go... He's a good face off guy in tough situations and an even better person. I'll definitely miss him too if he goes, but hey that's life in the NHL isn't it? <_< Especially with this stupid cap draw back. *sigh*

I think an honorable thing to do is retire with his head up and healthy rather than get waived or traded. Lets face it, he is just not the same player anymore, his play has gown downhill ever since his injury and shown no sign of regaining is old form.

I agree with the other posters who suggests a job on the coaching staff as a faceoff coach. He would be more useful to the team that way teaching JS,Gaunce and the rest our centers some tricks and tips in faceoffs than he would be playing for us.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Kassian
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Higgins - Lappiere - Pinozotto

I think retirement is his best plan.
Don't feel too sad for him, he has earned well in excess of $10 million over his career.
His career like many others will end early do to injury.

If he has an interest in becoming a coach or involved in a head office type job, I am sure he will have the opportunity to do so.

Ridiculously false.

Despite missing the last 10 games, Malhotra was 5th place in Selke voting, including six 1st-place votes.

I agree his playing career may be over. He used to show that he had some offensive ability on top of being a great defender with incredible faceoff skills. Since the injury though his offense is gone and his defense is adequate mainly due to good faceoff ability. IMO every legit NHLer has at least 3 things. Manny used to be great at all 3 of his things but now he has one thing and thats not enough imo. Love Manny though I hope we can keep him in the system. If not I hope he wins a championship with the white caps.

Sums it up, with so much salaray "fat" needing to be cut for next year, he won't be a Canuck unless he is willing to play for league minimum. Otherwise he may very well end up playing for a different team.

Could we sign him to a 2 way contract? Where he could earn top dollar in the NHL 1mill+ but could be moved safely back and forth between the minors where he could work with Gaunce and Jensen. I would be happy to pay him a little more if he would agree to moving back and forth at short notice.
