Why Vancouver does this: With the emergence of Jordan Schroeder, Manny has become the odd man out on the Canucks. Lapierre is more suited to be the fourth line centre and ideally, the wingers on the fourth line should be tough, energy players. Luke Adam is a solid prospect who's also the odd man out in Buffalo so this trade makes sense for both sides. The trade also shores up some cap space for the Canucks which can be beneficial if they want to add any pieces at the deadline.
Why Buffalo does this: The Sabres are the worst face-off team in the league so this trade gives them one of the better face-off men in the league. Manny can slot in anywhere in the bottom six in Buffalo and will benefit the Sabres greatly as the season goes on. Adam is a chip that they are willing to deal simply because he does not fit anywhere within the Sabres system but is still a good prospect for another team.
