After Saturdays ass kicking by the Leafs maybe he is Montreal bound. I would take him. Beats the hell out of Volpatti as a 2 minute tough guy. Funny how the Leafs got a whole lot better and braver with the additions of McLaren, Fraser and Orr.

But...but he's 6'4" and 232lbs. Nucks need size up front!!!!
Oh, he was replaced by a 5'9" and 185lbs guy? WTF?

This other Kassian has some good size 💪

You serious, bro?

Volpatti is a very good energy guy, who also can fight. He is also improving from last year.

Matt Kassian, on the other hand, is not an NHL-calibre player.

Volpatti is 6.0- 215lbs. 3 goals and -3 in 50 NHL games.
Kassianis 6-5 -240lbs. 2 goals and -3 in 28 NHL games.

Dont get me wrong, I like Volpatti, he just dosent scare anyone with bad intentions towards Henrick and Daniel IMHO.

So ya I guess Im serious. Wishful thinking though as MG does not see the value of a bonified tough guy. I hope our skill guys can survive the abuse that is continually given to them. Remember the elbow on Daniel last year and the lack of response. The team was basically done after that IMHO. For 2 or 3 minutes a game I would rather have the big guy.

I don't entirely disagree with you - losing Daniel for an illegal hit like that was stupid.

But I don't think tough guys who can't play have very much role in today's game.

For many years, Konopka was clammered as an idea by this board as a roster player, but look at how he plays; he is constantly goaded into taking dumb penalties. Sure he can fight, but he's useless with or without the puck. He was a target of a joke yesterday when the Wild came to Vancouver to play.

6'0 isn't big for a player (in terms of NHL tough guy standards) but 215 lbs at his size is quite respectable.

Rypien proved that being a smaller player didn't necessarily mean that toughness was compromised. (RIP)

Strong believer in carrying a heavyweight enforcer in the league, but would I say claim Matt Kassian off waivers? Nope.

He's on a one-way contract...don't know how the Craig Leipold would feel about paying him that much to play in the minors. If he clears, I would like to see Mike Gillis kick the tires on a possible Guillaume Desbiens for Matt Kassian swap. Re-assign him to the Chicago Wolves and have that option in the future if needed.

On nights that Alain Vigneault plays 4 minutes like last game against Minnesota, I wonder if that spot is better used for a talentless goon like Matt Kassian. Seems like it would be more beneficial if you're going to play a supposedly better hockey player four minutes a night.

The common argument is it is a waste of a spot in the lineup to carry an enforcer since they play four minutes a night and hinders the team's ability to roll four lines. Don't disagree with that, but it allows you to double shift players if they are having a strong game. Say Jordan Schroeder on Saturday or Jannik Hansen on Tuesday. Makes it a tad more difficult for other teams to match lines as well.

Problem is it stops being an "option" to double shift guys, and becomes mandatory. Volpatti is good enough that if our 4th line is clicking that night we can have a very even spread of minutes, keeping our talent fresh. This is all pretty moot, though, as once Kes/Booth are back Volpatti is likely the first to be demoted off the starting line-up and then down to the AHL. Weise is too versatile to not keep up as the 13th forward.

Not many but a few.

Example vs a smaller Sean Thornton who tied him up, outlasted then took over....the only guys I saw kassian convincingly beat was hordi and guillame desbiens....big whoop..

If we're gonna have a goon.....better have the baddest available.

Thornton is one of the best fighters in the league, as much as I hate to say it. Also Kass was owning him for the 1st half of that fight.

Do some more research.

Well no, the fight was close overall, but the beginning was ALL Kassian. At the end is when Thornton's experience and grappling skill kicked in and made it more even.

He has really improved his fighting ability and could knock off Orr off the Leafs the way he's destroying people.

And for those who fall for these types of stupid threads, Zach Kassian is not waiver eligible.

Cool. Neither is Zack Kassian.
