Luongo is probably the best goalie in the league right now behind Anderson and Rinne, maybe even Price. You don't trade away a top-5 goalie to sit with a guy who's around top-20 in stats in Schneider.
Right now Lu and Schneider have played the same number of games and it's quite obvious. Luongo > Schneider.
Yes, they have played the same number of games. What is that? 7 games each?
My ideal situation would be Luongo retires a Canuck, winning 8 consecutive Stanley Cups and Vezinas, and his number gets retired. But let's get real, Schneider is younger and cheaper. Our window is actually expanded just by the fact that we'd likely have more years of quality goaltending going with Schneider. And our issue with Luongo isn't how he plays in the middle of the season, but rather the playoffs. Who's to say that once we get to the playoffs, and AV designates Luongo starter again, the pressure gets to him and he starts breaking down.
I love to see Bobby Lu doing excellent, but don't get ahead of yourself (too late obviously). We likely won't know until R1G1 who is our starter going forward. Maybe not even then.
Luongo right now is outplaying Schneider. That's it. Luongo is not necessarily better than Schneider. You are not a psychic.
