Weird how it came about. Hope nothing happened to his wife or child or anything. If it's his eye injury that sucks, but strange how he played fine with it last season. Unless it just kept slowly getting worse or something.. but he looked mostly fine this year with faceoffs and everything. Guess we'll be waiting to see if it's eye or whatever personal thing he had come up.

He would have to pass minimum vision tests to be cleared for NHL play, so he's absolutely not 'almost completely blind' in that one eye. We do know he has reduced vision there from the injury, but we don't know if that has improved, worsened or stayed the same. We don't know either if the eye is the reason why he's on IR, but he does have to have some issue directly related to him versus an issue with his wife or one of his kids to qualify for IR as far as I know.

Actually, maybe it is related to his eye:

Not sure what is up but perhaps the cap is the reason he is being put on ir. if he retired now I'm not sure the Canucks would get any cap relief but they do get cap relief for him being on IR. Also from his perspective he still gets paid this way. Therefore, being placed on IR works better for both sides.

Im so confused....Has he not been fine this whole season? And now out of no where hes just out for the entire season? What did he break both of his legs or something. And why are people speculating hes going to retire? Just because hes missing half a regular season doesn't necessarily mean its the end of his career.

The IR has nothing to do with cap relief. You're thinking of LTI (which most call LTIR) as that allows teams to exceed the cap ceiling in the event of an injured player being out long term.

All IR does is free up a roster spot, which is helpful in this case if Kesler is ready to return so we wouldn't have to drop another player. We'll still have one too many when Booth's back from injury, but that helps for now.

Don't get how bad of an injury is it that he just put on long term IR? He just played a few games ago and was at the Skills comp looking normal and happy...think this more of a management decision? The personal reason may be they are not good terms?

Teamwise - It sucks. He's a greak PK guy and obviously AV uses him a lot to win faceoffs in our own zone. We'll allow a few more goals this season because of this injury. It's a positive for Shroder as he'll still be playing C when Kesler gets back.

That said. Best wishes to Manny, well liked for a good reason by teammates and fans!
