RUPERTKBD
Im so confused....Has he not been fine this whole season? And now out of no where hes just out for the entire season? What did he break both of his legs or something. And why are people speculating hes going to retire? Just because hes missing half a regular season doesn't necessarily mean its the end of his career. UFCanuck
Malhotra can be an NHL player, just not on a contender anymore. I can see him going to a team like Edmonton or Columbus to end his career.

kloubek
I love Manny. He is a classy, stand-up guy and is almost unchalleneged when it comes to his faceoff ability. Before his injury he was a beast for us on the 3rd line. The fact he came back for the playoffs that year speaks to the kind of soldier he is. Can't say enough good things about the guy. But honestly, this is best for everyone involved. With Schroeder playing well and Kesler/Booth coming back, it couldn't come at a better time for him to step aside, and I'm guessing the fact we're going to be getting players back on our roster played a huge role in his deciding to step aside. Once again - a classy move by a classy guy. Now we have an extra 2.5m to work with.
-DLC-
No point in speculating as to why or what, just wish him the very best for his overall health and future. Although anyone who's ever been passionately involved in sports and fitness knows how hard the prospect of life without that is, family can always help to ease the pain in that. He seems to be a great individual and I'm sure that will help carry him through whatever he is facing. Best wishes to the Manny camp.
UFCanuck
The biggest loss is the 60% faceoff percentage. In their last game against Minny, the Canucks got destroyed in the circle. It didn't cost them the game, but it easily could have. As someone already pointed out, having a reliable center to take a defensive zone faceoff in the closing moments with a one-goal lead is huge. The ideal thing (which the Canucks were actually doing before losing Manny) is to have him and Lapierre, so whoever is on their strong side can take the draw, or step in, in the event the other guy is waved out. goalie13
Maybe he will wind up as the NHL's first ever dedicated faceoff coach? All the best Manny!
WHL rocks
I disagree with those who say this is a huge loss. I don't think its much of a loss playing wise, Manny is no longer the same player he was in 2011 when he was a Selke candidate before the injury. If anything Manny's retirement / LTIR may very well be a benefit by clearing up cap space. In the leadership department it is somewhat of a loss but nothing other Canucks players can't step up and fill. After all this is a veteran group. Good Luck to Manny. I am sure he will continue to play a role in Canucks organisation in one way or another for years to come. Too bad he couldn't be along on the ride for a Cup run/win this year. Bure fan
Very sad news. I wish him all the best and hope everything is okay with him. Not to sound disrespectful but, I assume that since he is on IR does the Canucks have his salary free'd up ?
TheCammer
Very sad news. Manny sat at my table at the Canucks Ice & Dice dinner last year. His wife (Steve Nash's sister)and him are too of the most genuine people I have ever met. I have been attending this event for years and never had a more gracious host. He took the time to learn everyone's name, find out who they were and have personal conversations with them. Went and grabbed a few of the ladies' favourite players and brought them to the table for pictures and autographs, went up to the bar to pick up drinks for everyone, just a very real courteous gentleman. You could tell the respect he had amongst his teammates. Class personified. I hope everything works out for him.
Provost
More likely that this move is being made so that Shroeder doesn't have to be sent back down when Kesler returns. They gave Malhotra a long look to see if he could be OK. I feel bad, but it was the right thing to do.
Aladeen
He's almost completely blind in that eye, one of my teachers went to the game against the flames and he said that behind the play Manny cut in to turn on his blind side and almost wrecked a guy, didn't even see him
Canada Hockey Place
Respect to him as a player, as a leader and as a representative. Not at all worried for him though. He'll have no problems adjusting whatever comes next. Maybe he's trying out for the Whitecaps.
Tortorella's Rant
Yep. That eye injury finished him off.
Ginu
Sad news indeed... Best of luck to Manny... This will surely suck, especially on the pk and in the locker room... Hope he sticks around with the organization.

JPizzle
Not a big loss. All he is anymore is leadership and a voice in the room. And he still provides that even though he is injured

Captain Aerosex
Manny on the ice was becoming more and more just a face-off specialist, but his major component to the Canucks was the leadership and personality he brought to the room. You can't not love the guy, he's a class act, a role model, and I feel so bad for him right now. Wishing the best for Manny.
