The one thing common with all Cup winning teams in the last few years has been one or two big veterans in the lineup who can calm the team down during the playoffs.

Right now the Canucks don't really have that anymore. We lost Sami Salo and Malhotra this season who were our two oldest veterans. Our oldest guys right now are the Sedins who, despite the fact that they've been in this league a while, aren't as old as some of the true greybeards that have been essential in Cup winning teams. Right now the Sedins are 32 years old.

LA Kings - Willie Mitchell (35) and Ethan Moreau (didn't play in the playoffs, but 37)
Boston Bruins - Mark Recchi (43), Shane Hnidy (played a few playoff games, 37), Chara, Seidenberg (35)
Chicago Blackhawks - John Madden (37)
Pittsburgh Penguins - Bill Guerin (39)
Detroit Red Wings - Chris Chelios (46), Lidstrom (38)
Anaheim Ducks - Selanne (37), Sean O'Donnel and Brad May (36)
Carolina Hurricanes - Mark Recchi (38), Brind'Amour (36)
Tampa Bay Lightning - Dave Andreychuk (41)

We really lack this sort of key element. All of these players were invaluable in each of their respective teams Cup runs, and is something we desperately need now that we've lost two of our old guys.

Sure this team is experienced, sure the core all went to the Cup finals once, but they aren't anywhere near as experienced as guys like Recchi, Madden, Chelios and Guerin were for example.

So if the Sedins were 35, we'd win?

Okay then. Everyone sit on your hands and wait.

Pretty much this exact team got to the Cup Finals already.

Our entire team is experienced and the Sedins keep calm.

Unfortunately they only grant audience to the Dragonborn, and Rome currently plays for Dallas.

Brian Trottier. Or maybe Gordie Howe I think he is still alive... Nah, we need em a bit younger - I'll bet Gretzky could still get a few assists on the 3rd line.

Or we could get more ridonkulous if u need to ;)

Seriously. The OP is obsessed with this kind of thing. Look, if you're just looking at Cup winners since 2006, you can create almost any pattern you want. It's pointless. The only way to win the CUp is to outscore your opponents.

Guys, if we had dressed Gordie Howe we totally would have won Game 7 because HE IS SO OLD. HE IS OLDER THAN RECCHI SO WE WOULD HAVE WON.

Guys I found a few more teams that won the Cup with old dudes:

1955 - Red Wings - Gordie Howe (84 years old)
1959 Canadiens - Jean Beliveau (81)
1961 Blackhawks - Bobby Hull (74)
1962 - Maple Leafs - Frank Mahovlich (75)
1970 - Boston Bruins - Phil Esposito (70)

In fact, between 1955 and 1970 EVERY TEAM that won the Cup had a player older than 70 on it!! Guys it's obvious - we need to sign the surviving members of the 1972 Summit Series. Get 'er done, MG!!

1 good Cup run is clearly not enough experience. We got trounced by the L.A Kings who, believe it or not, have more Cup experience than we do.

That team went so deep and so strong because of its experience - look at the number of Cup winners on that team. Then look at the number of players who had played in a SCF.

Trust me, it's not just a coincidence that all these veterans are winning more and more Cups while younger guys stay hungry. These guys are playoff performers and have built their reputation on playing their best hockey in the playoffs. Having a guy like that on any team boosts everyone around them.

It's not just a simple correlation, it's history and it's been repeating itself year after year.

Buddy I called this EXACT situtation on here two years ago and was flamed, so I guess I have a bit of hockey knowledge, not to mention the 4 years I played in the OHL idiot.

The conspiracy theories that used to be against Lateralus:
