This Team Needs A Greybeard for the Playoffs

The one thing common with all Cup winning teams in the last few years has been one or two big veterans in the lineup who can calm the team down during the playoffs.

Right now the Canucks don't really have that anymore. We lost Sami Salo and Malhotra this season who were our two oldest veterans. Our oldest guys right now are the Sedins who, despite the fact that they've been in this league a while, aren't as old as some of the true greybeards that have been essential in Cup winning teams. Right now the Sedins are 32 years old.

LA Kings - Willie Mitchell (35) and Ethan Moreau (didn't play in the playoffs, but 37)

Boston Bruins - Mark Recchi (43), Shane Hnidy (played a few playoff games, 37), Chara, Seidenberg (35)

Chicago Blackhawks - John Madden (37)

Pittsburgh Penguins - Bill Guerin (39)

Detroit Red Wings - Chris Chelios (46), Lidstrom (38)

Anaheim Ducks - Selanne (37), Sean O'Donnel and Brad May (36)

Carolina Hurricanes - Mark Recchi (38), Brind'Amour (36)

Tampa Bay Lightning - Dave Andreychuk (41)

We really lack this sort of key element. All of these players were invaluable in each of their respective teams Cup runs, and is something we desperately need now that we've lost two of our old guys.

Sure this team is experienced, sure the core all went to the Cup finals once, but they aren't anywhere near as experienced as guys like Recchi, Madden, Chelios and Guerin were for example.
