Let me start off by saying the passion of this fan-base is amazing.

We all know that this team is destined for great things, yet we don't have the patience for ANY type of a mistake.

Enjoy the games and the season. Without a doubt, there is going to be ups and downs. As there has been every season in the past. We've already had a few instances this season. The ups: Henrik becoming the all time scoring leader for the Canucks!! Congrats btw :towel: And the downs: Manny being shut down for the season.

Yet we easily forget how much we love and how great this team is based on a bad game here and there.

Give them a break. I really don't think that the title of "worst fans" is the right way to describe this fan-base; it should rather be "impatient fans".

Just let them play, you just watch and cheer them on, and even when there's things that you just want to shake your head at and scream your face off do it silently.

Keep this in mind, a loss here and there is great for the team (regardless of how they lose). It keeps them humble. It helps them face adversity and battle their way through it.

I have been getting slammed by friends and family for almost thirty years of being a canucks fan. First it was cause how bad the team was, but once they started improving, people just look for a differant reasone to slam them. I dont think this will ever change, so in closing i think i am a fairly patient canucks fan. GO NUCKS GO !!

I've been a fan since early 80's and watched the Canucks when they were consistently bottom dwellers but had a lot of character players like Snepts, Williams, etc who gave effort each night. Then they started to improve with some skilled players and entertaining hockey to get to the SCF when they weren't expected to, and now, they win more consistently and have world class players. I also remember when the City could've lost the team a couple of times when the Griffiths family after 2 generations of ownership, could no longer maintain the team and sustain the type of financial losses they went through. Through all this, there was always something about the Canucks that many people hated. Looking back at what the team went through helps me to be patient and enjoy the entertainment.

I love this topic, great work OP you are stating my feelings this entire day. I have been on the forums and just seeing some of these topics and posts. They are all so negative and depressing. Go outside, ride a bike, take a walk, find a girl, please stop fixating on all the things wrong with the Canucks and focus on the things right for a change. If you cannot do that... you have mental issues more pressing that you should be working on.

Ummm....people on CDC are generally knowledgeable (likely because we're more hardcore fans). But I've been to games where some people really...just don't know/watch that much hockey. Unless I talk hockey with my "hockey friends" I try to avoid it because they just don't follow it enough.

More on topic, I think we are impatient fans. One loss and half of everyone wants to dismantle the team. A good streak and people are singing the praises of Ballard and Raymond (deservedly), who would have thought that?

I can say with all honesty, my passion for this team to win is extremely high. Not because I want to say we have a stanley cup win after 40+ years but because this organization puts up with soooo much on behalf of the fanbase. These guys deserve more than anyone to get one due to the extra curricular stuff these guys do for the city and its people alone! Everyone of our players are selfless and true class acts (with the exception of some of them on the ice at times). WHEN we get one it will be a glorious day for BC and we can finally move past the BS.

OP has a point. Part of the hate directed toward Vancouver is undeniably because of a minority of fickle fans that change with the wind and vocalize too much. They are annoying and usually ignorant, but they stick out because they're loud. It's always the few that give a bad name to the many.

Some food for thought:

Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.

Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

He who belittles another lacks good sense, whereas a person of discernment stays silent.

A little less foolishness and a little more class can go a long way, CDCers.

NHL Hockey is ,to me, about those with exceptional skill displaying it for all to see and appreciate.

It is a show and it does not matter which team they play for or what age they are or where they come from.

Enjoy the entire talent base and forget the money, politics and us vs. them.

We all end up in the same spot in the end so enjoy the entertainment.

I don't know, I used to dream of a Canucks' Stanley Cup and how awesome that would be, but after 2011, I just felt dejected and bitter.

Everything seemed to come together until the Finals. Then things started to go south. After Game 5, I thought "Only have to win 1 of the next 2 games and the Canucks will have a Stanley Cup!!"

Then came 2 of the most disappointing playoff games I have ever seen.

I could stomach 1994. It was close. The Canucks were in it, right to the end. Sure they weren't favourites, but Linden left it all on the ice, despite being really banged up.

But this last one hit me hard. The Canucks wilted like dead flowers, Lou couldn't make the big save, and the Twins were being beat up like schoolyard geeks. I know they had injuries. I know they were tired. It was still disappointing to see them bow out like that.

I am no longer impatient. I continue to watch the Canucks each game and I will always be a supportive fan. As long as they play hard and try to win each game, I will be happy. However, I am not holding my breath on a championship anytime soon. If they couldn't win with the lineup they had two years ago being the odds on favourite, the chance of them getting it done this year or anytime in the near future seems doubtful at best. My advice: Enjoy the games, enjoy the action, but don't take it too seriously. After all, it's just a game.

Yea, I really hate those "nights off."

Getting tossed around cuz the team doesn't care, or is losing a 2-goal lead, is not entertaining.

I haven't been a fan for as long as you have but i have noticed that vibe about the canucks. people just want to hate us. and as long as we don't have a cup or two it will continue. Even if we win the cup this season i can GUARANTEE you that people will challange the legitimacy of our championship. Its just a fact that we will never have any other fan bases sympathy. but why live to please our enemies!!!!

first of all no we don't have patience because they where suppose to have a cup already.... the kinda money that gillis is allowed to spend on players should of allowed him to get a stanley cup sooner rather than later... la kings of all teams beat us to the punch....remember that an 8th place team took us out because we where down a top player.... we had our chance against boston and came out flat just flat in game 7 of the finals.....i will tell you what i see in this team compared to the one in 94 ... we are much more talented but have no drive whats so ever..... no drive... no lindens heart in our team.... in 94 they weren't talented just hardworking players that got together and decided to play and drive..... this team has talent just no drive rather you agree with me or not don't matter..... no cup and thats the ultimate goal.....

I also feel the same way. in my opinion determination and drive beats skill any day. I don't question whether or not this team wants to/ likes to win. I question whether or not the guys in that locker room are willing to pay the price and push the limits and seperate them for once from everyother team and become champions.

I've been a fan since early 80's and watched the Canucks when they were consistently bottom dwellers but had a lot of character players like Snepts, Williams, etc who gave effort each night. Then they started to improve with some skilled players and entertaining hockey to get to the SCF when they weren't expected to, and now, they win more consistently and have world class players. again i haven't gone through the bad times. but what i wanna clear up is when i say impatient fans i don't mean what you just described. I mean that during this time when we do have an excellent team people are impatient when things go wrong. people are overly impatient when a player doesnt perform for 5 games!!!! 5 freaking games!

you sir have been very patient through the years and i applaud you for that and you are not the target audience for this thread :)

42 years = "Impatient Fans" ?

:picard:

what i wanna clear up is, when i say impatient fans i don't mean what you just said ( the number of years you have been a fan). I mean that in this age when we do have an excellent team people are impatient when things go wrong. people are overly impatient when a player doesnt perform for 5 games!!!! 5 freaking games! so please tell me base on this definition do you consider the average fan to be "impatient"?

I love this topic, great work OP you are stating my feelings this entire day. I have been on the forums and just seeing some of these topics and posts. They are all so negative and depressing. Great work to you. you just summed up all i was thinking (except for maybe the last part).

the thing is its not even the average fans fault anymore. its the news people who cover the team who are INSANELY impatient they do not cut the team and the players ANY slack. And so unconsciously most fans think that these news casters are professionals and their thoughts mean something; and so the average fan just starts repeating the bashing they hear. its kinda sad.

If you are really a fan of the game you observe and make your own judgment on the team. and trust me it would not be as harsh and impatient as the opinions of those we hear on the media.

Ummm....people on CDC are generally knowledgeable (likely because we're more hardcore fans). But I've been to games where some people really...just don't know/watch that much hockey. Unless I talk hockey with my "hockey friends" I try to avoid it because they just don't follow it enough.

precesily. having conversations with people who know of the canucks and know some of the players and some of the rules is absolutly pointless. its like talking to Siri (apple needs to step it up). so i too do not bring up hockey unless i'm with ppl who i respect their hockey opinion.

and thank you for phrasing it like that. that is the kind of "impatient" i was talking about!!!! :towel:

I can say with all honesty, my passion for this team to win is extremely high. All our players are class acts. that has to do with having a class act maangement group. they are all so selfless in everything they do. couldn't be more prouder of cheering for these group of guys!!! :towel:

In general, the impatience comes from a lack of public understanding of professional/world-class level competition. These types of fans live everywhere else, but it is magnified in the Canadian cities, especially in the cities where they have a contender.

Add to that the fact that Canadian teams are always going to get the crap end of the stick from the refs/league, whether it's Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg. I'm sure that people will accept this once we've reached 30+ seasons of bettman, and the statistics show the bias. :)

Those who suggest to blow up the team every time we lose because they had waited for 42 years are, unfortunately, impatient and idiotic.

Lets change our coach every year because there is no cup for 40 years! Wait, let's chase out our franchise goalie while we are at it. The sisters? Burrows do we need him? Kesler and his face in interview? Garrsion's cat is bothering his neighbor? Kassian and his missing teeth makes you have nightmares?

Believe it or not, those are the things those fans suggest to change because they think it would make the team better so we will win a cup in the near future.

I've been a fan since 2001. But it is hard to blame those who have been waiting since 1970 for being impatient.

I'm 48 and one of i've been watching almost all that time and i'm still here watching.. why? because as most of what the OP said.... have i been close to tearing my hair out? YES!!! especially during the griffith era.. partially that due to the Bure fiasco of which the fault laid directly on their shoulders, plus the cam neely thing.. they brough them in and sadly let them go... THAT being said for the most part we have iced decent teams that have provided countless games of entertaining hockey that a true hockey fan appreciates.

The 2 happiest days of this hockey fan to date were when the griffiths sold the team and the day when Mike Gillis was hired, The canucks went from *sometimes* being a very good team depending on the year to a ELITE team that usually has a chance to win every night and even to the point having a really good shot at the cup.

i truly believe we're one trade away from being arguably from the being in the top 3 teams in the entire NHL and MG is trying his best to make that happen but up to now we haven't had the bait for it as in one of our goalies plus someone else if need be which isn't a stretch since we could stand to do that as per pending UFA's anyway.

This is why this fan is still a fan after all these years! great hockey, do we suck some nights? yes! Do we win most nights? YES!

Well my bro and I have been following from the very early years. I took in my first game in 1975 after a long road trip and watched my favs Boudrias, Lever and this young D guy named Snepsts. I was in the post season stands in 82 and again in 94. Like anything there are ups 82, 94, 10,11... and downs 97 - 00 (the messed up years). I am not impatient with the team. Just the dumbasses calling themselves fans and the media. It is simple really... you're either a canuck or something else...! The team is exciting enjoy it.

Yes, this is going to really help people see the light. ^

It's better just to accept the fans for what they are and let them be and not get frustrated by them. Personality characteristics are pretty hard to change. For whatever reason, we have a pretty demanding fanbase that fixates on the smallest issues. Maybe we just have a bunch of perfectionists in this city.
