Smashian Kassian
To Vancouver: Martin Handzus To San Jose: 4th Round Pick (Can Throw Ebbett or Tockhin, exc. In if we need to ditch a contract) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Handzus is the perfect replacement for Manny. He is huge (6'5 215) He is great on faceoffs, great defensively, Can bring some offense aswell, and can step into the top 9 when needed. And he even helps in the shootouts (for the regular season) And he is a much better option than Dave Steckel. His cap hit is 2.5 but he is a pending UFA so he would just be a rental. Assets: Can be an effective shutdown center. Is a load to line up against at 6-5, 215 pounds. Plays solid defense and is also a capable playmaker. Excellent on face-offs, he can score timely goals. Flaws: Lacks speed. Isn't very aggressive for a player with such an imposing frame. Unfortunately, he never reached his full potential on offense. Is declining in all facets of the game in the NHL. Career Potential: Aging big center.

Beluga Whale
Handzus has taken more faceoffs than any other Shark, he's a lot more valuable to them than a fourth rounder. This trade doesn't make any sense for the Sharks, just because they have some players that could play that role doesn't mean they should just give up good depth for a fourth rounder. SkeeterHansen
I wouldn't object. Handzus is a big boy, would look good on 2nd PP
allkill326
Not bad, but would the Canucks not prefer more of a long-term center?
Patrick Jane
We gave two 4th round picks for Palhsson(I think this is how his name is spelled like) so maybe 2 4ths for handzus

allkill326
Handzus is quite well into his age, but I believe he'll excel in faceoffs for any team.

allkill326
No we need someone who can take on the role Manny had. We have plenty of centers in the pipeline that will need to crack the line-up at some point. (Schreoder, Gaunce, Mallet, Labate, exc.) He's not garbage. It something we need. and its a very small price to pay for what could be a big help in the playoffs.
Pears
Why not use this opportunity to acquire a healthy, young center like Bozak in exchange of Luongo?

Tortorella's Rant
Handzus is older now than Pahlsson was when we acquired him and is doing worse than Pahlsson statistically despite being on a better team. Where the hell is the appeal? Pahlsson was solid on faceoffs and defensively too. There needs to be better justification for trading away picks on players like this. I'm tired of them pissing their picks away. The Canucks have been doing it for at least a decade now.

c00kies
Why don't we just ask to borrow players from other teams? Trade a 2nd for Tavares on the condition that we must trade him back to the Islanders for a 3rd. We get Tavares for the playoff run, and the Islanders improve their pick from a 3rd-2nd for no big loss. This is flawless, right?

c00kies
Yeah, it could become a total strategy, like Vancouver & Chicago are looking like they'll face off in the 1st round potentially, and Edmonton wants Vancouver to have a long run because they don't want them to get a high-ish draft pick, because that would make them more competitive for more seasons, so they deal Hall & RNH to the Canucks for a run, and in that way their young guns get some playoff experience is well, right?
