Hotstove tonight summary

Senators
Kevin weekes: Spoke to Melnyk and Murray and said the Karlsson injury has significant impact. They are open to and will investigate a trade. In terms of business it impacts them big as there feature attraction is not playing.

Friedman: Team will not make a short term deal for the sake of making a short term deal
Stock: Gotta trade Alfie as they should be building for next year. They gottamove him

Healy: Wait until closer to trade deadline to move him

O Reilly
Freidman: Avalanche and Rangers went down this week on what a deal would work. Basically the offer was dman and oreilley for Del Zotto plus. Avs wanted more. They are targeting certain teams
.
Healy: Price is too high. As a result, teams are thinking of an offer sheet and structuring it in a way where Avs will not match.

Stock: Not sure where the value for him comes from. Last year he had 55 points 2 yrs before under 30 and not even a ppg guy in juniors.4

Olympics
Healy: IOC and IIHF have said they are willing to give media access to NHL/etc but problem is rights holders such as CBC paid huge for these rights. Also stated PA has major concerns with the hotel for players which would be really close to the Georgian border (safety issues)

Injuries
Weekes: Believes league needs to make it mandatory for players to protect themselves from certain injuries

Healy: Over 200 million a day right now is being lost by injured players. Start doing what Rangers do. Put a pad on glove to block shots/etc.

Stock: Why not wear the socks that are going to protect against laceration?

Weekes was coherent, unlike Healy. I actually like Weekes on the panel, more-so than Stock.

The O'Reilly talk is what I found most interesting. Del Zotto by himself should be enough to get that deal done, I can't believe the Avs would be asking for more. He's put up 55 points ONCE, he's not worth the rumoured 4 mil + or the potential 2 roster players + prospect to acquire him.

With his goalie demonstrations yea, it's close - but not as bad as when Strachan was still there.

Agreed. That's an absurd price (both trade- and salary-wise) to pay for a player who's in the midst of proving to be a difficulty in negotiations alone.

I don't know why they even bother devoting time to the Olympics issue. We all know it's going to happen, they're just haggling over the details.

Stock wears diapers
Healy is a red Charlie Sheen
Weekes is useless (like his hockey play)

Worst panel

I do enjoy Friedman's and LeBrun's insights.

ha! He definitely looks like the type who can't go a period of play without hitting the boys room for a line.

Even though their season is ruined I think it's good Ottawa don't make some panic trades. They need to think long term. I could see them possibly looking to trade for O'Reilly depending on what they would have to give up. I'm not sure about him being a #1 center but him as their #2 behind Spezza could work pretty well.

The injuries segment was incomplete. Are there more or less injuries this season? there are lots of injuries every year that's just part of playing in the NHL. I think eventually the hockey socks that are part of the uniform will be made with kevlar.

Really? I think Stock is the guy who has no clue whats going on. Last week Healy spend 2 minutes explaing a concept and Stock goes, what are you trying to say? lol, heally goes do we have anohter 2 mins?

IMO Weekes is the best person on there. I like him the most on After Hours too, Oakes is an idiot who can't stop asking stupid question and pissing off every player guest on the show.

With his goalie demonstrations yea, it's close - but not as bad as when Strachan was still there.

Strachan got kicked off for telling the truth about Crosby.

Back then word was getting out of the PIT dressing room that Crosby was doing a bit too much crying behind the scenes. Apparently Crosby was crying that he wasn't getting enough double shift time with Malkin and other top players to rack up his points total. Al Strachan brought it up on HNIC and I never saw him again. lol

Can't be saying that kinda stuff about the golden boy.

O'Reilly does a lot more than get points, though.
He does faceoffs, plays responsible defence (anad against better opponents than Duchene) and is a good leader.
He was going to be the captain.

O'Reilly is definitely worth the price he is asking for. If the Jets had an opportunity to acquire him, I'd be absolutely pumped. We are incredibly weak at centre.
