[PGT]: We stink at Shootouts 3 - Blues 4

258 posts in this topic

Lu gives them the shootout holy cow... :sadno: the word dumb a.s.s comes to mind, they should try to practice the shoot out more

8 games this year have lead to a loss or going to a shootout/ot game, which means we can't play 60 minutes of hockey. Just poor,

take away our division games this year and Vancouver isn't a good team

Its funny how last game everyone was all over Schneider, saying he cost us the game.

Then Lu has a sub-par preformence of his own and its all the refs fault.

They were bad early but made up for it as the game went on. They were worse last game, its not there fault we lost.

How in the hell did Backes not get a penalty after body checking luongo?

Frustrating game by the Canucks.

The Canucks absolutely dominated this game in parts but played even worse than the last game, probably put in a solid 30 minutes worth of effort and didn't deserve the 1 point at all. Right now we're finding ways to lose games which is exactly what you don't want - hopefully this road trip and Chicago is exactly what this team needs.

The Sedins had their best game of the season tonight, looks like they're finally back. Amazing cycles and passes by the twins all game long, they were consistently dominating in the offensive zone and Burrows looked good as well. That being done against a very physical and talented Blues defence is all the more impressive. Safe to say they're back.

Kesler was amazing again tonight, he's been the best Canuck these last 2 games. Flying all over the ice, drew a couple of penalties and a wicked shot to score. As for his linemates, Kassian had IMO his worst game all season and deserved the demotion - couldn't get pucks out and was invisible all night. Higgins looked good all night though, not sure why he was demoted.

Raymond and Hansen were buzzing tonight, Schroeder not as much but the 3 of them are still one of our best lines. Plenty of pressure during the 1st and 3rd period from these guys and obviously a great clutch goal by Raymond, he's rounding out to be our best secondary scorer and is probably playing on par with Burrows right now.

Our 4th line was brutal tonight. One or two big hits but wow they got hemmed in their own zone far too often. Generated no offence and sucked defending, the Blues just skated miles around them. Weise, Volpatti and Kassian really struggled tonight.

As for our defence, Tanev had his worst game of the season by a long shot. A few bad passes and terrible defending on the 1st goal against, he completely let his man skate past him to score. Ballard looked amazing in the first period, great passes, good skating and a few solid hits. Bieksa had a few good chances with his skating as did Hamhuis and were both reasonably sound in their own zone. Garrison wasn't bad either - no offence but didn't make any bad mistakes defensively. Then there's Edler. This guy made a brilliant play on Henrik's goal, taking out two Blues then dropping a perfect pass to Henrik. On the flipside, he basically gift-wrapped the Blues' 2nd goal by turning the puck over in the neutral zone, then losing his check and leaving McDonald to score. He simply doesn't belong on the right side and that play showed exactly why - his pass was off and then he fell too far left when defending the rush.

Luongo was pretty sound all game long, didn't really have a chance on the first two goals. There's no way he can smother a hard shot off the pads coming off the right wing - that was Tanev's fault for letting his forward skate right past him. As for the 2nd goal, he was square to the Tarasenko shot and just got unlucky that the puck bounced off the post right to the open man. Again that was Edler's check he didn't pick up. The third goal however was weak, his first bad goal all season long. Again Edler got walked by Sobotka but a short-side shot always looks bad, even with traffic in front. None of these goals were entirely Luongo's fault and he still gave us a chance to win.

Hate to say it but the last 2 games the Canucks' great goaltending has been out-dueled by two nobodies in the game - not backups, AHL goalies. Lots of bad bounces against, sure, but these goalies should be able to out-perform a couple of 3rd string tenders. That being said Luongo looked far better than Schneider did and with a HUGE Chicago game coming up, I'd prefer him in net. Luongo has always played well in Chicago and that sort of game is exactly what this team needs right now. It's their chance to make history and our chance to really suck it to them.

That Allan rookie must think he is a very good goalie now......I wish the next team will put him in his place.

Yah Kass, moved it to PGT instead.

I didn't all of a sudden say we need to get bigger because of 1 period. This has been a problem for years, 1 period , 1 game etc...

MG got a 21 year old Kassian last year and he could barely stick on the team. Sat for deciding game in playoffs. He is not the answer just yet. Kassian is best suited for 3rd or 4th line, I've been saying this since before the season started and its even more clear now.

Clearly he has been struggling on the 2nd line. Last game he was responsible for the Dallas game winner, (lost his check and gave up on the play for Dillon's game winner). Today he cost the team with a terrible pass/turn over which cost a goal.

Booth has done nothing to impress me. He failed miserably in the playoffs last year.

This team needs a legit top 6 winger with size and toughness for the Sedins or the 2nd line. Kassian needs to go one the 3rd line at best.

Higgins, Burrows, Raymond are not the answer to another playoff run.

5-1-1 in the month of February.

This teams gonna have mini slumps throughout the season.

Hopefully they'll get a big boost with the return of Booth on Tuesday.

I laughed at Luongo getting frozen by Oshie. But he wasn't 'bad'. Schneider played a worse game, the screened one was the only "meh" goal. Still very mediocre night for Luongo though. Sucks that our goalie needs to be on to win. Average goaltending = loss. Or any team not a crapty NW team = loss apparently.

Ehrhoff is ripping it up on his new team with 10 points in 15 games . Garrison has 2 points and hardly shoots at the net. 5 million for that big shot and I never see it. Salo is 38 years old and has 7 points FFS.

Meanwhile, Hamuhis continues to SUCK offensively at the blue line. Always pretend to shoot, then past, but then it is too late for anyone to retreive his pass......nothing good happens offensively from the stick of Dan Hamuhis.

Luongo wasn't as bad as Schneider. The screen goal was the only one really blah one. The shootout was hilarious. Our team can't win unless the goalie is playing good. Mediocre or bad games is almost always a loss. We can't outscore it for some reason. Ever.

Sub par? Hardly....average maybe...

Yes...I'm all over Schneider - he's supposed to be the started yet it's flip a coin to decide how well he plays...stats don't lie.

Before tonight, Luongo was leading in GAA....Schneider wasn't leading in anything except bad games...

Pretty sad we're 2-3-3 against Western opponents not including the NW division. Basically, we're well under .500 against playoff teams.

what are you talking about ? the screen goal was really the only one he couldnt do anything about... the other 2 goals luongo took himself right out of the play sliding right out of the net and flopping after giving up a huge rebound right up the middle.
