Buffalo Sabres@BuffaloSabres

Darcy Regier announced this afternoon that Lindy Ruff has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres. More to follow.

Was the longest serving coach in the NHL. 15 seasons with the Sabres

@reporterchris: There were 170 NHL coaching changes from the time Lindy Ruff was hired by the #sabres in July 1997 and fired today.

AV to Buffalo. Ruff to Van. Both teams shake up their coaching staff without downgrading.

Buddy I called this EXACT situtation on here two years ago and was flamed, so I guess I have a bit of hockey knowledge, not to mention the 4 years I played in the OHL idiot.

@TheStanchion: Lindy Ruff fired? I didn't think that was possible, he's been there forever. Wow. Somehow this is Cody Hodgson's fault.

Lol

I could just imagine it.

*AV walks into Sabre's locker room*

"Hi Cody."

*Cue Cody Hodgson starting to cry.*

When you have Miller shooting his mouth off left and right, you know there's some issues in Sabre land. More changes to come?

Wow, I thought we'd see Miller traded before this happening.

Well there's a solid coach available now. If he doesn't get hired before the summer, the Canucks have an option if AV can't get the job done.

I've always liked Ruff and I wouldn't mind seeing him here but I'm not sure Kassian would be too happy about that.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

IF you're going to fire AV, now is the time. Fire AV and nab Ruff. I've said all along that I would only agree with firing AV if there was a better option available. I think Ruff might be that better option.

There's rumours floating around that Patrick Roy might be the new/interim coach of the Sabres. Not sure if there's any truth to that but it's still interesting.

I don't think now is the time. The season is too short to be messing around like that.

Gillis can talk to Ruff behind the scenes and see if he'd be interested in the job after the season since I can't picture us getting through Chicago this year (they just have an insane amount of speed all throughout that lineup). Bring Ruff in before the draft. That way he gets an entire summer to prepare and a full training camp + preseason.

Geez Cohos old man must have a lot of influence in Saberville.

Why do you think that? Is Hodgson's dad pushing for him to become the next head coach? Ruff couldn't have put him any higher than the 1st line with Vanek and Pominville.

This seems like a reasonable plan, assuming he doesn't get snatched up (surely there will be more coaching changes this season?).

Trade Miller to Vancouver. We let Schneider have fresh start in Buffalo. Win-win. Solid goaltending in Vancouver and good start for Schneider.

Could Florida be looking for a new coach? Even Philly might be willing if they continue to struggle this season.
