Why not? He played well - only let in 1 soft one and 1 soft one in the shoot out.

Schneider stopped 27 scoring chances though last night, I was very impressed with how he played, and I think that flutter goal from St Louis might have put Luongo away for this game.

Oh I agree, point is, we still lost - to a team playing a "real" backup. Emery? He's like 6 wins (7 now) and 15 losses in shootouts.
Both our goalies have been playing very well - most of the time. It's those WTH was that, that get us going...

Dom: Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

Soft one in the shootout?

When?

key word to your post is shootout

Cory made the shootout possible

Definitely deserves it. As awesome as Lu has been i'd love to see Corey get a string of starts. Didn't really matter who started tomorrow though as the other goalie will get the game on Friday.

Guess he deserved it after last night.

No knowing how well Lu would have done though... Schneider is a terrific goalie but luongo is phenomenal. hopefully he post a shutout vs the stars and we can trade him ASAP for an elite player;)

How long until you figure it out Schneider won't be traded? Gillis himself said he has no interest in trading Cory.

Glad Schneids gets Dallas after he stole a point last night. He can also redeem himself since its against the Stars and he played brutally against Dallas last Friday.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

That was easily the most impressive game by either of them this season. That deserves a 2nd start in a row.

Gillis will trade anyone if it makes his team better as he said. We all thought Lu would be gone a long time ago, he is still here and is not a typical backup as some think. If a team offers more Schneider, Gills will no doubt consider it.

No surprise here, had a great game last night, and also he's played well in Dallas, whereas Luongo has played well in Nashville and will get the 2nd end of the back to back, probably Schneider in Detroit on Sunday then

Schneider starts tomorrow. Dropped a good line too. "Maybe we'll get a shootout guy at the deadline."

lol thorwing his guys under the bus?? but is true for the past 3 years....it would be funny of Luongo said something like that, the entire city and media would be all over him fact

Perfect choice, can't go wrong with the Schneiderman. Especially after that monster performance in Chicago.

He won't have a choice. Luongo is better it's simple. You keep the better goalie. Don't get me wrong though.. I think Schneider is an amazing goalie. Just not better than Lu

Have to go with NoHeart on this one bro... it sounds like you're in fantasy land if you think the management has 'no choice' but to keep Luongo. If that was the case, he wouldn't be on the chopping block in the first place.

Roberto is the ultimate competitor. Why would he accept a trade to Toronto or Florida? To lose for 10 years? He has an NTC and there is no way he'll waive it this year.

I'm telling u... this guy is as cup hungry as ANY player in the league. He's staying. At least this year

Cory played a tremendous game and is the sole reason this team did not lose by 5 goals. He deserves the start. Hopefully the rest of the team can play a decent game in front of him tomorrow. The defense was quite an embarassment last night, and the high number of odd-man rushes against Vancouver was frustrating to watch. Cory stopped each of the three breakaways in the first period and stopped several glorious scoring opportunities for the Blackhawks. Without his fantastic performance last night, we would have been embarassed by Chicago.

Now this I agree with 100%. It's why I started changing my tune a bit about the whole "Luongo probably wants to go to Florida" thing. The guy has his whole life to be with his family. I have no doubt in my mind that what he really wants right now is a Stanley Cup, which is why he's probably willing to stick around this season. Thing is though, would his hunger be satisfied if he's the one on the bench when the Canucks win it all? I definitely think if he had a chance to go to a contender and be the starter he'd take that chance as well. Personally, I think Luongo and the Lightning are a match made in heaven. I believe they have a roster that's ready to contend (remember, they just reached the East finals 2 years ago with an even worse roster) but I don't believe Lindback or Garon is the answer in net. Luongo would do just fine behind Hedman, Carle, Brewer and Salo. If the Lightning improve their 3rd pairing, that's actually not a very bad defense at all.

Schneider deserves the start. If Lou was in net last night with all those primo chances that our D gave up we would all be suffering from a massive case of deja vu and there would be ten blocked threads on here calling for Lou's head.
