Smashian Kassian
That's right. So far there are close to no indication Luongo wants to go anywhere but Florida while Gillis' asking price is immense but fair; a price Tallon does not want to pay an in the grand scheme of the franchise, cannot afford. To me, it is an indication that Gillis is actually not looking to trade Luongo at all.
Canucks_Hockey_101
Here's the thing 101. You say Gillis's price for Luongo is so immense that teams aren't willing to pay it. If thats the case why do you think teams would be willing to pay the price Schneider would cost? Since the price it would take to get him would be even more immense and insane. Plus you account the fact that there are very few teams that are interested in either guy right now, and even fewer (likely none) that are in the position to pay what we would want for Cory. There is one team still interested in Roberto, the issue is they are in a position to not pay a rediculous sum, and they need to unload some money themselves, that's Florida. So we lower our price (while still getting something useful) and take on a bad contract, then everyone wins. Florida gets Roberto which is a huge marketing cog for them, they unload salary, they don't pay a ton to get him, we add useful pieces, we unload that mammoth contract which would drop our cap for next season. We move on from this situation, and Roberto moves on to where he wants to be. VAN Goc Upshall Petrovic 2nd FLA Luongo Ebbett Sauve
DeNiro
I still think Washington is the best trading partner for Lu. And he would probably be willing to go there. Any combo of Brouwer, Laich, Johansson, and Alzner would go a long way for this team.

Canucks_Hockey_101
It might be time for Gillis to swallow his pride and just accept a cup dump. If that's the only thing keeping a deal from getting done, then he's gotta just do it, and deal with that salary later. Either through a buyout or trade. Canucks_Hockey_101
Provide the source that said McPhee* was upset about Gillis and Gilman attending a Caps game during a scouting trip? After the trip Gillis apologized to McPhee for stirring up rumours.

Smashian Kassian
Ebbett hasn't done anything, Sauvé hasn't proven anything at all and Luongo has a "mammoth contract" yet they're trying to unload salary. Goc has never played a full season in this league, Upshall is on IR.... again.... and Petrovic is a ROOKIE with a lot of upside who didn't make a rebuilding team nor its affiliate AHL team. Great value. FLA Luongo VAN 18,200 garbage bags The Vancouver Panthers. Lets please look at other options than Florida, Toronto and Luongo. This team needs the hell of a lot different pieces than what Florida could and is willing to offer, Toronto is satisfied with their team for the moment and have not been keen on paying Gillis' price at all under Burker AND Nonis, and Luongo is rumored to have nixed both a Toronto and a Chicago trade; he does not want to leave and his comment about waiving his NTC IF it helps the team was taken out of context. thad
How hard do you think it would be to get Ryan Strome in a Schneider deal?.. Que the "they will not trade Strome, idiot" posts lol Seriously though, they may have it planned to be a Tavares Strome 1-2 punch but Schneider is a sure fire bet to be their franchise goalie. Tavares is their number 1 guy and you gotta give to get. Could be safer to try and find a good 2nd line centre elsewhere as opposed to consitently coming up short because of a revolving door of inadequate goaltending. Assuming we make a pahlsson type move for a centre to replace Shredder. How about this, both teams give up a future star and another young player with good potential. Schneider Schroeder Strome Martin Nyi get their franchise goalie and an NHL ready player to groom into the 2nd line centre and replace Strome long term. They are ready to start gunning for the playoffs but will never get anywhere without a goalie. We get an A grade prospect to take the torch eventually and give up Schroeder, who as good as he's playing, doesn't really fit our timeline. A guy like Strome could tear up the ahl for a year and centre our 3rd line the following year. I dunno it may be a long shot but I'm starting to think if Schneider goes on the market there will be a pretty hot bidding war between Tampa and NYI
DeNiro
GM's always say they aren't interested, even when they are. Doesn't mean much. Luongo brings a winning element to the Capitals that they haven't had since they were PT winners. He changes the dynamic of that team. As for a Florida deal. If we're taking Upshall as a cap dump, forget about Petrovic and a 2nd and get Gudbranson instead. Goc, Upshall, and Gudbranson is a much better deal for us. Get real canuck fans
Markstrom is on fire,,,pulled after allowing 2 goals on 2 shots last game,,,allowed goal on 1st shot tonight. After allowing 2 goals on 2 shots Clemmenson came in allowed another 5. You have got to think if they want Markstrom to be the man in Florida they would want someone who can still play at a high level Clemmenson and Theodore seem to be done playing at a high level. Canucks_Hockey_101
I guess you don't understand. I'll break it down for you. Here is the reasoning for each team and the reasoning for each player in the deal VAN - We need to get this situation over with, Cory is the better option to keep w/ better contract, Luongo wants to go and wants to go to FLA, works out best for all sides. Goc - 3rd line center we need, also is a LH< good on draws, kills penalties, solid two way game. He, Hansen and Higgins would be great heading into the playoffs Petrovic - Prospect Dman with alot of upside, our weakest area is prospects, this adds a real nice piece to that area. And someone who isn't all that far away, maybe 1-2 years. Upshall - Cap dump, he will be a great 4th liner who can jump up the line-up with injuries, then we buy him out in the offseason. 2nd - Deep draft. Adds to prospect pool. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FLA - Need goaltending badly, Luongo is one of the most popular panthers of all time, and the best Panther of all time, he would be a huge sell in Florida, they want to bring him back they just need us to take salary which we do in Goc and Upshall. Luongo - Basically see above^ Ebbett & Sauve - Contract dumps, we have to have even contracts going both ways, as we are at our limit I believe. They aren't in the deal really to add anything. Although Ebbett is a decent depth guy and Sauve is a prospect. So atleast there is a bit of value in the contract dumps. I don't think they are interested honestly, GMGM said he wasn't interested and Holtby has been playing great lately.
