Hello Everyone! I just wanted to get your take on the situation that could or may unfold within the next 3 weeks or so. That factor is the Nicklas Jensen Factor...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=MMlz7WtSqFw

amazing video by CDC's very own DJ Kreuzberg, everyone give him a high five for the awesome video!

For those that post before actually reading the thread, ill make a easy summary

-Zack Kassian is playing poorly and inconsistent hockey
-Nicklas Jensen SEL season is over March 5th, rumor has it that his Junior team doesn't want him back so he can't play anywhere else
-Kassian is waiver exempt from getting picked off waivers, probably not beneficial to his development to get 4th line ice time and Volpatti fills that grinder/energy roll a lot better imo.
-Roster space is at max capacity so 1 player needs to be put on waivers to acquire another

I think the one and only position this affects would be Zack Kassian, As we all know and have seen, Kassian has been playing very inconsistent and somewhat poorly the last few weeks. He's had some benching's in the 3rd periods of games and has been a liable player defensively. The point is, he has a couple more weeks to play well or he may very well get sent down to the minors to make room for Nicklas Jensen.

I think what Jensen has done in Sweden has been nothing short of amazing, he's been playing against men and he's up to speed (game shape) to come in and not feel out of place. Quite frankly he has enormous offensive potential and skill that could compliment the team's current need.

Why he would help this team over Kassian?

-I think he has a much higher offensive ceiling and skill
-He is in the mold of a pure sniper/goal scorer which could help our PP big time
-We lack a pure goal scorer type player on this team and have been for ages.

What are your thoughts people?

Aaron Rome 1 goal in 114 games and oh yeah 10 assists. Thats 11 points people..that's a decent .0964 points per game average. He's a power play expert at turn overs and wide shots. He's a depth defenceman for anyone looking to win the stanley cup. A key here is he is very slow and takes timely penalties because he is an expert at head games. Clearly the most underrated underachiever of all time. He also has a mean 5 oclock shadow. MMMMM Aaron Rome goes down smooth like an unshaked can of Guinness that has been in the garage for awhile. MMM Aaron Rome put him on your powerplay, let him kill penalties, a stud...a steed... half cro magnon man part time bowling champion but supremely talented Defenceman. Rome for the Norris! I think Rome was solid like Rory Fitzpatrick or Eric Weinrich...Rome could use a yellow visor for that matter ...really give him the edge

I thought Jensen wouldn't be eligible to play with us (or some other factor) this year.

Incorrect - he could play in the AHL.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

I think the 4th is a fine place for zack to play his first year, I would rather see him get hungry on the 4th then have another lazy season on the first line in Chicago. I jenson can help is bring him up.

I like Jensen, but seriously...he has as much chance of bumping Kassian from the roster as Ben Eager does of playing in the next Oilers game.

Yeah, I don't think Jensen can play for us this year, but he'll be coming over next year to try and make the team.

I don't think Kassian spot is in jeopardy tho....he does so much for this team that even if Jensen proves he has more offense right outta the gate, Kassian will probably be put on the 3rd or 4th line where he'll still be effective IMO

Don't think that 4th line would fly with AV, it's not the type of line he wants and it's a waste of talent that would only see small mins. Zack is not above Higgins and Hanson anyway unless he shows us otherwise.

I doubt Jensen is any better then Kassian defensively and we need size and grit in our line up so I don't see Kass losing his spot.

Have you seem zack play defensively? I think he was standing beside the Dallas player last night on the first goal telling him the top shelf is open shoot.

Kassian is going to be fine. Just remember, this is the kind of player that is going to take a number of seasons to reach his potential. He has to play.

He's actually been solid defensively up until the last couple games. Good positioning and takeaways. The Dillon goal was pretty bad last time by him though.

Last night during that goal the defensemen didn't play it well either.

Does he not play defence? Anyone else a little worried that his current coach won't play him and his former coach doesn't want him? He looked like a solid all around player in the games I saw at the world juniors tournament last year...

Wow the first five games everyone was riding Kassian d--- now you all hating on him?

Damn no wonder Lu never moved his family here and secretly wants be traded back to the US. Band wagon jumpers.

I hate Lu, he can't win in big games, he flops too much blah blah, now its, I'm gonna miss Lu, pleased dont trade him, Cory sucks. Vancouver has to have one if the worst bandwagon jumping fans in any sport.

Kassian is young and I told you guys just being in the Sedin line will inflate his points. Watch him be united with the Sedins again in future and rack up points. Everyone be waiving the Kassian flag again lol

My thoughts are Jensen cannot play for us this year, he chose to go to Sweden to play in a mens league, or he would have been qssigned to Oshawa.

Kassians spot is only in jeopardy if and when Lou gets traded depending on what we get in return.

wise showed he had more hustle and speed than kassian last game it only took one shift befor kassian was sat for wise on the second line how about he plays on the 3rd and 4th and works his way up ... sedins never started on the first line or burrows or kes they all earned their spots kas should have to do the grinding on the bottom lines and learn to kill penalties and such befor hes promoted. its the old saying " if you want to be a pornstar , you gotta do gay porn first" its been shown clearly sedins are much better with burrows and kassian has a hard time keeping up with the speed on the 2nd and 3rd line. our 4th line should be getting 10 minutes a game anyways.

Honestly I don't think Kassian would lose a roster spot. He just needs to fix some consistency issues, he's young so he'll learn. If they were to give Jensen a shot this season though I wouldn't mind these lines:

Sedin Sedin Burr - Sedins and burr nuff said.

Raymond Kes Booth - Very fast line. Kes and Ray had success before. Raymond back to himself so let's see this line for a couple of games

Jensen Schroeder Kass - I think familiarity will be good for these guys. They're young, they'll communicate with one another and a good shot of youth in a veteran lineup can be good eh?

Higgins Lappy Hansen - who says the 4th can't be a checking line? This seems like a line that I'd be comfortable sending out against a top line.

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

No way Kassian's roster spot should be in jeopardy; for starters (as mentioned) Nicklas will probably get time in the AHL before playing in the NHL, and even when he does come to the bigs I think the people who should feel threatened would be someone like Booth or Raymond (lesser chance for Higgins), not Kassian since they play such different games.

When Nick is ready to join the Top 6 (I hope that's when they bring him up) I would project the lineup to be

Sedins - Burrows
Jensen - Kesler - Kassian
Raymond - Schroeder - Booth
Higgins - Lapierre - Hansen

The reason I say Booth and Raymond may feel threatened is because of their expensive price on the 3rd line (Booth) and relative unsuitability for playoff 3rd line duties (Raymond), when guys like Higgins and Hansen, though unproven with Schroeder, should be perfectly capable of playing in the Top 9 and may in fact provide tougher, better two-way play and may be more suitable for the type of game that the team may want to play in the playoffs (if last season's acquisition of Pahlsson was any indication of the 2 offensive line, 2 physical checking line game, which would benefit tougher players and better support Jordan if he stays as the 3rd line center).

It'd def. be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I don't think Kass will be threatened.
