don't like it four team from each conference so conference 1 and 2 8 teams 3 and 4 8 teams?? Playoff format change??? NHL wants a weak team to make the playoffs?

Wow. We're screwed.

Yep. No more crappy ass division to let our boys coast into the playoffs (with our expectations sky high due to a great record) and lose to an 8th seed.

Oh wait, that's awesome.

I've learned that being a fan of the only good team in a crappy division isn't all that it's made out to be.

Good, finally don't have to fly to Minny four times a year. Traveling almost exclusively in their own timezone, especially on back-to-backs, is really going to reduce the wear and tear on the team.

Personally not a huge fan of having uneven divisions, especially when there are 2 big divisions like this (for each conference) I think we should expand before switching into an alignment like this so the divisions are even,

Interested to see how this wildcard idea will work. Aswell as the playoffs, exc. To see if they are changing it from the last proposal or keeping it all the same.

From our perspective I kinda like it though, we will finally have some competition in San Jose and LA.

We are in by far the toughest, most physical division. East 2 is ridiculously weak.

What if Minnesota and Colorado become really good, then Anaheim, LA, Phoenix and San Jose start sucking? Another easy division for Vancouver

There's no way to split up the West without making powerhouse divisions. Minny and Colorado have to play Chicago, St Louis, and Nashville eight times a year now. This realignment keeps Vancouver with the rest of the Pacific coast teams, as it should be, while still allowing it to play other Canadian teams, as it should be. What's with the hatred?

Eastern divisions should have more teams than western ones. It just makes sense for travel purposes.

I like it. Way better than seeing the Oilers, Flames and Av's 20 times each per year!!

Remember that last years proposal by the players had West 1 and West 2 with 8 teams each. Detroit and Columbus have now moved East, and rightfully so.

This is much more fair IMO since the Western/Pacific clubs have to travel way more over the course of a season than the Eastern teams. So the 7 teams in our group balances that out as far as I'm concerned.

Two cons for us:

Less chance of a chi-van series

We are in a difficult division...with edm is on the rise, we have 6 playoff contenders when only 4 teams make it the playoffs...man this is gonna be tough hockey

Would think it would work similar to last years proposal:

During the NHL regular season, each team will play a home-and-home series against every team outside its conference. Other games are played within the conference, easing travel by giving every team more games in its own time zone.

New Stanley Cup Playoff Format

Still to be finalized is the new playoff format. The league has determined that the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will be played within the divisions. But how teams are seeded for the semifinals (what would currently be the current Conference Finals) will be decided at a later meeting.

Basically we play every team in our conference 6 times per year and every other team twice. Unfortunately we will see the Hawks and Redwings less...twice instead of 4 times per year. But we get to see EVERY Eastern conference team twice every year.

I don't buy this weak divison-strong division bs.

Lot's of teams go from strong to weak or vise versa.

Just look at the west. Canucks, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado, LA, Anaheim. They have all had ups their and downs over the years.

Wow. Canucks in the toughest conference. East 2 is the weakest.

Man, Van could get the most physical conference and most skilled. Of course, if ANA loses Perry and/or Getlaf this summer, ANA could look a lot different. But it's still a really tough conference. Time to beef up and get some big bodies out of a goalie trade this summer.

These divisions makes me feel like Seattle and Kansas City are making a case to the NHL for teams in the very near future...

Maybe:
1. Phx to Portland
2. Expand Seattle and Quebec
3. Columbus/Florida to Kansas City

I was under the impression that they were doing the first two rounds being in your own 'division' thing so they can build up rivalries but then they separate Vancouver and Chicago :picard: I may be bias here (I probably am) but I would say that the Canucks/Blackhawk rivalry is pretty much one of the best (perhaps even the best next toPens and Flyers) in all the NHL so why would they do this?

Also why is everyone getting upset about Calgary and Edmonton being in our division/conference they both suck  L.A and San Jose I understand the fear a bit more but seriously guys your worried about the Flames and Oilers?

I do like that they moved Detroit to the East and that Winnipeg will now be in the West. It makes more sense.

Boston and Detroit will be duking it out for a while, should create a great new rivalry. I could see a Canucks-Sharks or Canucks-Ducks rivalry grow pretty strong from all this.
