Makes you wonder if the NHL is getting ready for a Seattle and Kansas City expansion? Seattle in our division and Kansas in the central.

Why are Florida and Tampa grouped with teams further away than Washington, Carolina, etc...?

Because then they can make that cool hockey stick shape on the map.

Let Canucks management know you want King Richard Brodeur in the Ring of Honour with no further delay! He's been retired for 25 years!

How about we just keep it the way it is.... They can have Columbus and we'll take Winnipeg, there problem solved.

EDIT: I think a whole realignment is idiotic, keep it simple.. What's up with all these major cities in the east and the west being so barren. lol Hurry up and build! If you build it they will come!

I am all for this realignment, but if anything was going to moved and keep things as they are, I would say give them Detroit and we take Winnipeg. This would make the map look better, but it doesn't matter as we are getting moved around.

i dont know why people dont think this is great for vancouver!?!?

our travel sched is greatly reduced.
we play in our time zone
we get every team at least once in vancouver. ie crosby, stamkos, ovi, etc every year

and for those thinking just switching detroit or cbj with winnipeg would be an easy fix. detroit has been promised an eastern move for years. and i just makes more sense all together

Based on this, East 1 Division teams have an unfair advantage IMO due to the fact they could take a bus to just about every divisional game. I would be more comfortable with CLS and NYI being moved to East 2 and FLA and TB being moved to East 1.

I realize that we're 4 pages in and this hasn't become a trade Lou thread, so sorry for breaking the chain. (note, I'm not trying to make this a trade Lou thread)
I just think it would be hilarious if he gets his dream trade to florida 2013-2014, then - 2014-2015, FLA reports they're relocating to Seattle.

Awesome, let's start the rumor mill churning.

I also noticed earlier that CBC.ca is reporting that the 'Hotsove' was the one breaking this news.

LOL that would be funny, but they need to add 2 teams so it is more likely that Seattle will get an expansion team, if Florida moves, it will be in the EAST.

Let's enjoy our last division title!

The fans of this team must really think the Canucks are terrible, put them in a division with San Jose and Anaheim and suddenly they're a basement dweller! Gosh, what a terrible, unskilled, non-competitive team we follow, too bad we were all fooled by two consecutive President's Trophies when all they really were was the best of the worst.

I agree. We still play the Oilers and Flames 6 times each as we do now, but with the new realignment we get the added bonus of fewer games against Minny and the Av's which are replaced with 6 games each against the Sharks, Kings, Ducks and the Seattle Coyotes. All basically in our time zone so makes for nice evening viewing of games on tv. Plus all the tours going down to those warm weather cities in the winter will be great.

And yeah, we get to see EVERY team in the East twice every season, unlike now where we might not see Sid or Ovy for two or three years.

What's not to like????

Portland getting a hockey team? Really?

In the long run I would like to see this (after seattle). We would have a great grouping of west coast teams. If seattle gets a team and it works well portland would be pressing for a team hard. I was down in portland for a hockey tournament for my kids this winter, they love hockey there and support the winter hawks well.

Van, edm, cal, sea, port. Can anyone say road trip...

Because, Detroit has been promised to be back with Toronto since the last major realignment.

That would suck even more than now - means we would never see an all Canadian final.

@FriedgeHNIC: The new re-alignment NHL/NHLPA have worked on

@FriedgeHNIC: Some kind of wild-card is being discussed for the two 8-team divisions. I'm not sure of the outcome, though

I don't like that our division is shaped like Alberta.

I love the new alignment. Why? Because every single team will visit Rogers Arena at least once a year. The way they have it setup (I understand) is we would play each of the 6 other teams in our new conference 6 times, and every other team 2 times.

23 x 2 = 46 games
6 x 6 = 36 games

36+46+ = 82 games

So Toronto, Pittsburgh, Washington, Philly, Montreal, New York, Boston, etc. will all visit us once a year. GOOD! We lose Detroit, and Chicago... they only will visit 1x a year now. But we also dump Columbus, Nashville and Minnesota (thank god). No more crappy Minnesota games a bunch of times a year.

Yep. No more crappy ass division to let our boys coast into the playoffs (with our expectations sky high due to a great record) and lose to an 8th seed.

Oh wait, that's awesome.

I've learned that being a fan of the only good team in a crappy division isn't all that it's made out to be.
