The realignment is a complete joke until the 3 Canadian teams in their divs are split up, or at least move one out of each into one where there is not a Canadian team.

As far as I am concerned, Juice is just "On loan" to the Ducks

This is good for the Canucks. It will ramp up the competiton while decreasing the travel. Win-win really.

4 original 6 teams in the new Central division, that will make for some great games.

Wouldn't we just be playing teams in our division 6 times a year and only having a few games vs other divisions? We'd only face Chicago 4 times a year still, or am I wrong on that?

we would see the Oilers Flames Kings Sharks Ducks and Coyotes 6 times a year with the new division, and every other team in the league we would play twice.

As I understand it it's:

Play eastern teams twice - 32
Play other western division 3 times - 21
Play own division teams 5 or 6 times - 29

The regular season part seems ok. It's the playoff format I don't like.

Sooooooo stupid.

The wild card doesn't solve ANYTHING if both 8 team divisions are in the SAME CONFERENCE.

Are the people running the league all handicapped?

play the other 6 teams in our division 6 times = 36

play the other 23 teams in the league twice = 46

36 + 46 = 82 games

So as I see it if the standings today were the playoffs:

Chicago vs. Phoenix (Wildcard)
Detroit vs. Dallas
Aneheim vs. SJ(Wildcard)
Vancouver vs. LA

Montreal vs. NYR (Wildcard team)
Boston vs. Toronto
Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa (Wildcard team)
Carolina vs. NJ

Weird how Detroit is playing a lower seed than Chicago..

So let me get this straight, 8 out of the 14 team make it to the play-offs from West?

Can someone confirm this?

Heres my proposal for alignment:
forget about east vs. west.
2 conferences, each has 15 teams.
4 divisions each divided according to best possible for travel.

If they could at least have the decency to put Florida and Tampa in the atlantic conference, this wouldn't look as stupid. But no, the NHL just loves screwing with anyone they can.

I would be pleased as punch if you pressed this green button.

whoops I meant play own division 4 or 5 not 5 or 6.

Not sure where you got those numbers from. Here's my source:

I'm just looking forward to a tougher division. It'll force the guys to play harder, I hope.

I personally like the proposal. It gives the Canucks some more competition within the division, which is something that has been missing for a few years now.

So, Montreal is in the same division as the Florida teams because?

Because there are 7,000,000 registered Quebecers; 6,000,000 in Quebec, 1,000,000 in Florida.

What if Minnesota and Colorado become really good, then Anaheim, LA, Phoenix and San Jose start sucking? Another easy division for Vancouver

I could definitely see Anaheim and San Jose taking a large step backwards. Ducks look like they'll lose Perry, and Selanne is going to pack it in soon. And San Jose's key players are getting old, and they have very little in the way of prospects.

On the other hand, Minnesota has one of the deepest prospect pools in the league, and many of them are nearly NHL-ready. They will be a powerhouse in a couple years. And Colorado has some very good young players too.
