(GDT) Chicago Wolves vs Rockford IceHogs - 2/24/13, 1:00PM PST

21 posts in this topic

It's the mini-Canucks vs the mini-Blackhawks for this Sunday matinee! Just like their parent teams, the Wolves and IceHogs have a nasty rivalry in the AHL. Both teams seems to bring out the best in eachother.

Goalie matchup:

Paul LaTour@platour68

Our goalie matchup today features Matt Climie (14-13-2, 2.40, .920) for the #ChicagoWolves vs. Henrik Karlsson (2-2, 2.23, .919)#IceHogs.

To start:

Paul LaTour@platour68

#ChicagoWolves starters: Archibald-Longpre-Davies up front with Connauton-Matheson on D.

Andersson with a great defensive effort to foil an IceHogs 3 on 2.

Rockford sounding like the better team so far. They've had a couple good scoring chances and forced Climie to make several saves. Knowing the Wolves, though, their offensive push will come. It seems they either start really hot or start really slow, eventually find their rhythm and take over the game somewhat.

Sweatt rings one off the post! This guy has been buzzing lately! He's sure doing a lot with his opportunity on the 1st line with Haydar.

Fight! It's Connauton taking on Kyle Beach of the Wolves. It's over in short order though.

Seems the Wolves will get a PP out of that incident. They've scored on the PP in 8 straight games at home.

Wolves doing great on the PP!. Sure sounds like Haydar is a master at creating offense with the man advantage. The PP runs through him.

It's called a goal and it will be Brad Mills' first ever AHL goal. PP coming up for the Wolves, though, as the IceHogs take a tripping penalty.

1-0 IceHogs.

Nothin doin on that PP for the Wolves. They've only scored 5 goals on 44 total PP opportunities against Rockford this season.

Archibald takes a delay of game penalty and the IceHogs will go the PP.

1st PK unit on for the Wolves:

Schneider - Desbiens

Vandermeer - Andersson

Vandermeer takes a slashing penalty, which will give the IceHogs a 5 on 3 opportunity for 39 seconds.

The Wolves did some great work at first but couldn't stop Martin St. Pierre from scoring for Rockford.

2-0 IceHogs.

Wow! Matt Climie's stats are better than I expected!

2.40 GAA, and 9.20 S% is pretty amazing considering the Wolves aren't exactly star-studded

Haydar spoiled Karlsson's shutout by scoring on the PP with 29 seconds to go in the game, but it was all the Wolves could muster.

2-1 IceHogs.
