Can the mods please sticky this thread? I realize there isn't a whole lot of interest in the ECHL but the Canucks do have several prospects down in Kalamzoo this year (a pretty unusual number, actually, because of all the vets and guys on AHL only contracts currently playing for the Wolves) and it gets annoying to update 4+ prospects in their own threads when all of them play in the same game. This way, for anyone who wishes to keep tabs on any prospects in the ECHL, all they have to do is visit this thread.

As of Feb. 24/2013, the Canucks prospects playing for the Wings are:

Forwards: Prabh Rai (injured), Steven Anthony, Alexandre Grenier, Wesley Myron

Defensemen: Yann Sauve

Goaltenders: Joe Cannata
_____________________________________________________________________________

Obviously, transactions between the AHL and ECHL happen quite frequently so the group of guys playing for the Wings will always be changing but I'll try to add an update whenever a player, or players, is/are sent up or down.

This is pretty much the farm team of the Wolves right?

Rai is still playing for the Wings?

Thanks for making this and thanks for all the updates on our guys so far! I agree it's much more convenient to use this thread - saves time and effort.

Rai is out for the season I believe.

Yup, Rai has a season ending injury, it'll also likely be a career (with the Canucks) ender too.

Did he ever have a career with the Canucks? Would have made for a nice story if he made the Canucks akin to what Burrows accomplished, but that ship has seemed to have sailed. Kid has had nothing but bad luck as a pro.

agreed. maybe if he came out of junior i'd be ok with sitting him this much his first year but he's older. and on top of that he wins games so its hard to understand why they keep him benched so often.

He more then held his own in the AHL this year when he was given some time to get comfortable ( mostly due to the Climie injury, but he was still afforded the time)

As most are already aware, Mallet was sent down to the ECHL by the Wolves and Cannata went the other way to the AHL.

He hasn't been healthy in almost 3 years or something ridiculous. Not sure if hockey's going to be viable for him if he's always hurt like this. Hope he gets better though... he's missed so much time.

Those were very critical years for his development
it's unfortunate, i'm sure it was his dream to lace up and play for his home grown team

Update from yesterday:

Chicago Wolves@Chicago_Wolves

BREAKING NEWS: Center Alex Friesen has been reassigned from the #chicagowolves to the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings.

There are now an incredible 7 drafted prospects on the Wings roster (Sauve, Rai, Anthony, Friesen, Grenier, Mallet, Myron). Just too many guys with AHL only contracts on the Wolves. Haydar, Sterling, Davies, Desbiens, Kattelus, Miller, Matheson, Hunt, Clime are all Wolves property (I might have missed some) and are the top priority, apparently. That's just way too many players on AHL contracts for that team to be a positive environment for the development of Canucks prospects/

Anyway, this is the ECHL thread so I'll drop it. Just thought I'd note that update.

That is too much Canuck property in Kalamazoo.

I think Sauve, Mallet and Grenier at least should be in the AHL. Maybe Friesen.

There's some players on the Wings that are too good for the ECHL. Unfortunately it's a numbers game.

Hopefully next season we'll have our own farm team, and guys like Sauve, Grenier, Mallet, and Friesen can play there.

It's at the point where it's hurting our chances of developing good prospects. Having guys like Cannata and Polasek constantly sitting out is no good.

Friesen and Sauve had been struggling for the majority of this year thus far so I don't mind seeing them get big minutes in Kalamazoo.

Polasek's a regular now in Chicago though, I'm happy to say.

With Mallet and Grenier both being late-bloomers, I'm not opposed to seeing them play this season in the ECHL as well to get development time to work on their offense and all-around game. Look what a year there did for Archibald.

The real irony is that the issue isn't the Wolves, but Arniel specifically.

Nonetheless, a total of 11 players in the Canucks system have come through Kalamazoo. That's crazy. The old Salmon Kings only wish they had this many guys.

Yeah, the sheer number of guys in the ECHL right now is remarkable. Hopefully it pays dividends for most of them, rather than stonewalling their careers.
