The NHL.com website has a poll on it today asking what is the "best hockey movie?" Sadly, Mighty Ducks is currently leading.

I think this sends a big message as to why the NHL targets the markets it does so much, while basically snubbing the traditional markets. The fanboys of the NHL are probably younger, and don't really know much about hockey to begin with.

I also think this is why you will not see any drastic changes to fix the glaring issues in the game, and will continue to see the shootout.

Regardless of your age, you should know Slap Shot is #1.

I'd say Slapshot followed closely by Miracle

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

agreed but if anyone votes Slap Shot 2, there computer should automatically be injected with a virus never allowing them to go to a hockey website again.PS- After Slap Shot, I'd vote for Mystery Alaska.

Everyone knows Slapshot is the #1 hockey movie ever made, but how could you be sad if the Mighty Ducks are winning, growing up that movie was awesome, I guarentee it got a lot of kids wanting to play hockey from just watching it. It's obviously lame now being older, but being a kid and growing up it was a good movie.

Trevor Linden Quote Nov. 29th 2012 [Asked if he would return to the game?]
"The game has been with me for a long time, if the right opportunity came about, you never know"

"You don't know this, but Trevor Linden had cracked ribs and torn rib cartilage for the last four games of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final," Cliff Ronning said. "You can't imagine what it's like to hear your captain, in a room down the hall, screaming at the top of his lungs as they injected the needle into his rib cage. Knowing him, he probably thought we couldn't hear. He would then walk into our dressing room like nothing had happened. That was inspirational."

Slapshot followed by Goon, and then youngblood, then Miracle

No love for The Rocket?

My personal preference is Slapshot -> Miracle -> The Rocket -> Goon -> Youngblood
Although Miracle, Goon and The Rocket are really close.

If you couldn't vote for Slap Shot, and had to choose NOW which was the best hockey movie, would you choose Mighty Ducks?

You're right, growing up, Mighty Ducks seemed like an awesome movie. But watching it now, and understanding how hockey is SUPPOSED to be, Mighty Ducks is a terrible hockey movie.

That's the point of the thread, is that because Mighty Ducks has been chosen as the best hockey movie, means that there are a lot of hockey fans (at least on the NHL site) that know very little about the sport.

I thought Goon was alright. But still nothing compared to Slap Shot. Slap Shot will be #1 forever, likely. It's a cult classic that cannot possibly done again in today's society.

The Disney Mighty Ducks series are all family or kids movies. Belongs in that category instead of sports or hockey movies.

Goon is the Slapshot of this generation. It's not as great as Slapshot, but it's the closest facsimile we'll ever get in today's society, and a close second.

No hockey movie will ever be able to provide as many quotable lines as Slapshot! No hockey movie will ever come close. I really liked Miracle in terms of its portrayal of hockey in a more serious sense. I also really liked Mystery, Alaska because I came from a similarly small town.

Didn't mention Goon because I haven't seen it yet.

Shiznak at his best:

Considering their cap hit and age, I'd still take Bonino over Kesler.

Goon sucked. I just sat awkwardly through 95% of the "jokes" and felt bad that the writers actually found them funny.
For the record, I'm generally pretty easy to amuse.

in order and why...

3) Mystery Alaska; most of why I liked this movie is because of the ending. It would have been easier for the ending to be different, but they went the other direction, and that made the movie that much better because you aren't upset at the outcome at all (at least I wasn't.)

2) Miracle; it's what got me into hockey. Call me a baby, but every time they switch to the audio of the last 10 seconds... I cry.

1) Slap Shot; I think it's actually impossible to play hockey and not think several moments of this movie. I know I'm always yelling at my friends that are goalies; "hey Hanrahan!" when I am near the goal.
