I've been thinking, was the Detroit spanking finally what the team needed to wake up? Remember last year when we got clubbed by MTL and then turned our season around. Or a couple years ago when the Hawks stapled us 7-1? We went on a fantastic streak, can't remember what it was but I know it was impressive. I honestly think that we will wake up from the beating we took against the Wings. I don't know about you but I wanna see this team play with some heart, back to these days:

Not sure if it will wake them up but hopefully. The addition of Kesler and Booth back into the line up was supposed to help spark this team not hinder how they were doing.

The team seemed to know exactly where the problems lay in the Detroit game. Once again Luongo has shown himself to be world class by taking on the responsibility of the loss (although I think he is only responsible for 4 bad goals, the other 4 were bounces and deflections). Schneiderman now has the net, and its his to lose. I think Cory will stand on his head tonight.

Because Lindy did such a good job in Buffalo firing up his team ?

AV is the best coach Vancouver has ever had, Lindy is not an improvement.

I think the road trip in general was what the needed. Also, the game against the Preds, and the game against the Wings. Looking forward to the next time they have a few days off without travel as well.

Why do people want to hire Lindy Ruff?
He had several years with elite teams in Buffalo and never managed to do anything more with them than AV has done with our team, and his past few seasons were easily dubbed unsuccessful considering the team that he had.
At best hiring him would be a lateral move.

Thank you! for not taking the easy, lazy way out and blaming our coach for every single problem this team's got like so many people do here on CDC. I agree, along with Quinn and Nielsen, AV is the best bench boss our Canucks have ever had.

I wouldn't want to tax the brain trust of CDC quite so much, addition is probably more than enough.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

it's not the coach people. It's lack of a second wave of attack. What we really need is David Booth and Kesler to find their game and be that secondary consistant scoring threat we desperately need. i know Raymond is having a hell of a bounce back year, but we can't rely on him to be that guy. We brought in Booth to be that power forward we have been lacking since Bert left and that has not panned out so far.

A loss like the one we just suffered on Sunday is only good if each of the players and coaches, to a man, are embarrassed and ashamed by it.

Say what you want about the road trip being good (2 reg. wins; 1 reg. loss; 1 OT loss are decent results), but the team didn't play particularly well for long stretches in each of the four games. I would say we got 3 points out of the 5 points in spite of ourselves (Schneider stole one in Chicago, and Luongo stole us 2 in Nashville with his play in the 1st period).

I like the fact the the guys are owning up to how badly they played in Detroit...I'm sure they're aware that they dodged a few bullets in the other road games and that they can't mail it in as they did and have been doing.

A little faith that our leadership core have addressed the issues among the 23 man roster is needed...it would be really disappointing if the team did not get on a lengthy roll starting tonight.

No one suggested Ruff was or is a bad coach. You clearly didn't really comprehend the post that you responded to.

That said, it's really hard to argue that a coach who's led his team to 15 years of mediocrity is an improvement over one who has just come off back-to-back President's trophies and a recent trip to game 7 of the Cup final. Sure sometimes a team needs a change, but not this one, at least not now. That would be an irresponsible knee-jerk reaction. We're not even 20 games into this season, and we're still in a very good position standings-wise.

I swear if you people had your way we'd have a new goalie and a new coach after every loss.

Ruff was so bad of a coach Buffalo kept him for 15 years. Right.

I think Lindy Ruff lost control of his team more than a year ago...his players used to stick up for each other, mainly because Ruff stood up for them, but after no one came to Ryan Miller's defense after Lucic ran him, the writing was on the wall. As was coined in "Remember the Titans", attitude is a reflection of leadership, and it seems the Sabre attitude of playing and fighting for each other is a thing of the past (hence, a great place for Hodgson to be...sorry, couldn't resist that one).

If, big IF, Ruff was to coach the Canucks, would we get the Ruff of years gone by, or Ruff of the last two seasons? He was able to get a lot out of a low budget team for the longest time, but he's the same guy that let a goon like Andrew Peters run at and fight Razor when he was tending the nets for the Sens, and the same guy who couldn't get much out of a high payroll squad over the past two years.

I don't believe the team has tuned AV out yet (I doubt if that will happen anytime soon because I think there is a healthy dose of respect AV garners from the likes of Lu/Schneider/Sedin/Sedin/Burrows/Bieksa/Hamhuis...i.e., the guys that make up the leadership group on the team...only wildcard would be Kes, but I think the so called tension between the two is overblown), so it's not likely AV or any of his staff are going anywhere.

On the ice, we seem to be out of sync, but I attribute that to the Canucks going from a defence-first approach in the first 12 games to a more offensive style in the past 6 games, predicated by the players available. We need to go back to playing a far more patient, disciplined defensive game that we were playing before Kes and Booth joined the lineup. Should this result in a string of wins, I'm sure we won't hear the fire AV/hire Ruff chorus, until of course, a loss.

some of you still want to rely on kes and booth. i never can understand it.
we were on a 6 game win streak when they entered the lineup.
not so much since then.
people were taking note of the speed line. its been gutted to support kes.
our power play stopped producing.
rather than kes bolstering the third line, he stepped into second and powerplay.dont turn kes into messier.

"What players need is the right kind of strength and power. That includes learning to understand that leverage and positioning can be just as important as raw strength when it comes to winning battles in the game. It's more about timing and athleticism --and avoiding injury--than it is about how much you can bench press. I don't know how many times I've seen a guy with the physique of a defensive end line up a guy half his size, only to bounce off when he connects. Sure, there is room in the game for big guys who can throw their weight around. But for the most part, players are smart enough to see them coming--and strong enough to protect the puck when they arrive. There are trainers out there who know how to devlop hockey-specific strength--though a trainer can help only if a player follows the program. All too often, I've seen players sign up with the best trainer, but not show up for their workouts and never to reap the benefits."
