Please, explain to me how "above average" is equal to being a Stanley Cup contender.

Worked out just fine for LA. We just need one of our goalies to get hot at the exact right time....

Yes, we should write it off sitting in first place in our division and 3rd in the West. Really a reactionary and full retard post.

I don't disagree with letting Kassian play more and potentially Jensen before years' end though.

We're in third place effectively by default. If our division was half decent, we'd probably in the 7-9 range.

That's over half of the remaining season dude. And it's four to six weeks... Likely the latter

So what? Who cares about the regular season?

guy comes back early again and gets injured again

safe to say the canucks cant rely on him to be healthy for the playoffs , he doesnt ease himself back into anything

time to trade luo for a 2nd line center might have to give up more then luo to get someone high calibre

I swear, it hasn't even been a year since our team has had too many centermen. I've no clue what's going on with the team.

Look at LA's roster. It's packed with star power and simply underperformed in a big way. I was expecting them to be one of the top three seeds last season. And yes, they got hot at the right time but the Canucks are still MIA after that Boston game last season.

I've cheered for this team my entire life, I think I'll stay put. I don't have to think everything is perfectly fine to be a fan of the team. I think it's time for a fresh start, you guys don't have to agree with me but I don't have to cheer for another team because of that.

Theres a difference between being concerned, and suggesting we blow it up.

Well have him for the playoffs, rested. Obviously sucks losing him, but 4 weeks of no Kesler won't be the end of our season.

our team needs a shake up aka a trade

anyone who thinks we need a fresh start is an idiot and doesnt realize how long a "fresh start" takes to equal success even in the reg season

oilers look like its going to take them another 5 years to make the playoffs

And our cap if it's an offer sheet? Who would you trade for O'Reilly that wouldn't leave holes elsewhere in our lineup?

I was thinking if we can unload Ballard and sign O'Reilly to Keith's current contract ($4.2 a year for 3 years) it could would. It also makes sense because we have the depth on D

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - O'Reilly - Higgins
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Pinizzotto - Lapierre - Kassian

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Garrison
Alberts/Barker/Vandermeer - Tanev

Schneider
Luongo

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Point is, the regular season only matters in so far as getting into the playoffs. LA backed into them last year and Quick stole the Cup. If we got hot at the right time, especially if one of our goalies got hot at the right time, who knows?

It's going to be constant with Kesler, you just need to watch what he does on the ice sometimes to realize he's always going to be breaking down his body. He can't stop the way he plays it's what makes him effective but he needs to think a bit more about putting his body in vulnerable positions, it's wreckless and stupid you ain't going to help your team if you can't play..

The Oilers' fans are gonna be in for a big disappointment. Their so-called future stars still haven't proven anything other than that they've been drafted high. Are they tough competitors? Who knows. And they'll have big problems trying to keep more than one of them when all of their entry-level contracts expire. They'll get better, sure. But they're very iffy, even with their potential, to key them in as perennial Cup contenders.

Blowing up a team should only be undertaken when there's NO hope in the future, like the Calgary team the last 3 years. Management there has been stupid in not trading Iginla and Kipper long ago.

Finally, Kassian Higgins, Booth, Hansen will finally get the puck and be able to play offense for a change.

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Booth-Schroeder-Burrows
Higgins-Lapierre-Hansen
Weise-Anyone-Volpatti (if not gone, but who care about the fourth)

Don't know why AV can't give Schroeder some quality minutes with good offensive players. It's something to go slow with rookies, but it's another thing not giving them a chance to prove themselves.

Kesler was not doing much for us anyways. It will be nice to see Schroeder back between Hansen and Raymond

Well, Kesler's latest injury puts a 2/3 center back on the list of team needs when discussing a Luongo deal.

LOL @ oilers...

He has 5 points in 7 games on an invisible 2nd line

I reflects poorly on him that the second line hasn't been a difference maker, especially since the big knock on him is that he's a one-man show who doesn't make others better.

Gillis needs to address out center position now for sure. There's no way we're going anywhere with only 3 legit natural centers.

Seen this goal 100 times, Bure goes far post and in not 5 hole.

He never said it went in the 5 hole, he called him (Mike Vernon) Mikey 5 hole as he was known through out the league.

Kesler has done nothing on the ice so far and looks very likely he'll never again be close to what he was before all his injuries. Mind you, several of his mates coasted thru these last few games as well. Bad karma for a compressed season.
