Moderators may immediately lock and thread that does not contain tags.    Tags must be placed at the start of your thread title, following this exact formatting:    [Tag] Thread Title   Here are some of the most used popular tags:    [Proposal]
A trade, or trades, for next season, or even the off-season.
      [Off-Season]
FA signings, off-season trades for RFA's, UFA's rights etc...
      [Value Of]

[Speculation] Posting a rumor (with a source of course), but providing why it could be possible for the Canucks to land that player.   [Discussion]
Thoughts on team trading strategy and composition.   Please feel free to create your own tag if none of these suit your thread.

[Proposal] Van-Fla

Recommended Posts

Well, we certainly need to make a move in my opinion with Kesler's injury. We need to get new pieces in place in order to have them gel before playoffs.

What extra do we give in order to expedite a trade now? It is going to be a piece that hurts, you can't just get something for nothing.

Here is a framework. As always, I assume some people will hate it.. like all proposals.

To Fla:

Luongo

Raymond (we keep some of his cap hit and salary to make it cheaper for Florida)

Hansen

Schroeder

Conditional 2nd round (pending re-signing Weiss)

to Van:

Weiss

Matthias

Bjugstad

(either Clemmonson or Theodore)

It leaves us with a forward core of:

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows

Booth-Weiss-Kassian

Jensen-Matthias-Higgins

Pinizotto-Lapierre-Weise

When (if) Kesler returns we slot him on the 2nd line wing.

too many pieces going back and forth. and this trade leaves Fla with very little center depth.

To Vancouver

Campbell

Weiss

Theodore

To Florida

Luongo

Balard

Why Florida does this:

Weiss and Theodore are pretty much useless this season. Florida has the worst goals against in the NHL and are still in the running to win the division. Luongo would be a huge boost to their goaltending. Campbell would be a big loss but Ballard has proven he can play a top four role for them and could fill the vacant slot.

Why Vancouver does this:

Campbell and Garrison were great together. This would also allow Tanev to pair up with Edler on the right side. Weiss is playing poorly but he is a proven point producer and would be a fill-in for Kesler. Theodore provides experience in the backup role behind Schneider.

Why this trade may actually happen:

1. Volpatti was waived when Kesler gets injured. May seem like a minor coincidence but I have an inkling a deal might be in the works.

2. Tanev being moved beside Edler despite playing well with Ballard.

3. If you combine all of the salaries of the trade we would be adding 2.212 million in cap back. With Volpatti in the lineup we have 2.102 salary we can add. Take Volpatti off the roster and voila, there is enough cap space for this trade to take place.
