What's the point of this article? I'm still trying to figure it out. Sometimes I think he's going through an extended mid life crisis and needs to take it out on everyone else. Angry man.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at an (actually true) sports article. Win.

<<[Malholtra] won’t asked to be traded. Hell, why would he want to leave the Twilight zone?>>

Ahhh, so good. I needed that. :)

Meanwhile in Edmonton the team hasn't made the playoffs six years and the local media worship the management and players like Gods offering never a critical word.

When Mike Gillis first took his job as general manager of the Vancouver Canucks one of the things he had the most difficulty understanding was the feeling of impending dread which seemed to overcome every fan and member of the media when it came to the fortunes of the team.
He couldn’t understand why everyone was so negative and fatalistic, worried about when the next shoe would drop as the season progressed. He expressed it in different terms of course, but stated quite openly that he had absolutely no identification with those feelings whatsoever.

After the time he’s been here — with all the personal tragedies and heartache he’s seen — and then taking this team to within one game of the big prize before experiencing just another pothole, perhaps he’s beginning to understand what the fans of this team may be feeling after the 43 years of absurdities that befall this team.

Take the case of Ryan Kesler, for instance. The team drafts a beauty in this motivated American kid who is determined to make himself a great player, and with lots of work and encouragement from this management does just that. Then bleep starts to happen and injuries fall on this guy like locusts on a corn field. Part of it has been brought on by the way he’s been managed by the team and part of it by the way he seems to look for unnecessary contact. His broken foot injury clearly has nothing to do with any of that, you’re not going to ask a guy to stop blocking shots. But of all 20 plus guys on the roster, who gets the broken foot? Kesler? Really?

While the truly morose would say Wednesday was just another day for the Canucks, the circus which was the scene at Rogers Arena — on a day when most teams probably wouldn’t have practised at all — was nothing short of total reinforcement for those who believe this team is somehow determined to tread the path of the Chicago Cubs. It was ridiculous.

You have the team moving Aaron Volpatti to the Chicago Wolves, claiming they want him to play more and become more than a fourth-line winger. Really? That doesn’t even pass the giggle test for a team so bloated with good wingers they don’t know what to do with them. And Niklas Jensen is on the way. Then they put Steve Pinizzotto on the roster so they can send him down for conditioning with the intent of doing what exactly? Perhaps to visit Anton Rodin, another great centre prospect the team drafted whose career down there has gone the way of Kesler when it comes to injury. Right now he has a hernia problem. No, not a sports hernia, you’d expect that. It’s a normal, garden variety old-man hernia which will allow him to be back in just a couple of weeks to await his next mishap.

Then Manny Malhotra shows up and practices with the team, saying he disagrees with the decision to essentially shut down his career after an earlier catastrophic eye injury that really helped scuttle the run to what should have been the team’s first Stanley Cup back in 2011. He doesn’t know whether he wants to try to play again but says he’ll go along with the decision for the time being and won’t asked to be traded. Hell, why would he want to leave the Twilight zone?

All this 12 hours after the man who was supposed to be the No. 1 goalie this year intimates that having two No. 1 goalies the way they do isn’t really working for him. He didn’t say it in so many words but the implication was clear. In the same game at which your goalie determines that this “grab-the-brass-ring” or “dice rolling” system wasn’t his favourite way to go, your prize winger Zack Kassian obtained in a controversial trade the previous season sits scowling on the bench according to close observers while playing all of 6:52 on the fourth line. And throw in a loss at home to a team with half the talent and nearly $20 million U.S. cap space.

Add the fact you still have the team’s top two scorers saying it’s okay if they don’t score every night and that you have to be able to win games 2-1, while at the same time a defence that should be one of the best in the game is playing like somebody just yelled “fire.”

That’s just one 24-hour period. And this is the smartest, most thoughtful and thorough management group the club has ever had in place.

Yes, perhaps now he has at least some sense of what over 40 years of this can do to people.

FIRE AV hire a better coach problem solved AV has a gritty personality I dont know him but i can see it.

really?? no one sees this??

The Cam Neely trade?
The "extra day" before 1994 game 7 that was instituted mysteriously and only helped the rangers who had a lot of knocks and bruises, took away the canucks momentum.

Nathan Lafayette's goal post

Joe Sakic- never wanted to play here.

The Cam Neely trade and how it worked out in Boston drafting a power forward kid FROM VANCOUVER, who then beat us up in the cup finals.

The death of Luc Bourdon? or the fact that we even drafted him instead of Kopitar

Aaron Rome's suspension- the worst suspension in league history in the stanley cup finals.

The reffing in the finals.

The insane number of inujuries we had during the 2011 run, not to mention Manny's freak accident to a guy who was the heart and soul of this team...the first time we had a legit contending 3rd line that scored, won face offs...

The Hodgson trade- why does such a smart GM trade truly one of our best players for a guy way further behind in development.
Why didn't Cody like it here?

Daniel Sedin Inury last year and the slap on the wrist the NHL gave Keith.

This summer

Justin Schultz chooses Edmonton... what? even they thought they were out of the running. What did AV say to Schultz in those meetings to piss him off???

Shea Weber- met with Gillis for 3 hours and still we couldn't figure out how to get him here.

Shane Doan- go read the last article where Doan says he was really close to signing here...

If we are not cursed, then who the hell is bro???

maybe some of you guys are too young to realize this franchise's history, but the stanley cup run in 2011 epitomized it, it took everything we had with the best team we have ever had to just get to the finals- why was it so hard? we demolished teams in the regular season...that is what a curse does...that is the weight of a curse on you, it takes everything you have and still it is not enough.

Gillis is falling into that curse too, he is trying not too, but all of a sudden our great roster is playing like junk

Personally, I think the Ranger's Bambino curse went to us when they beat us in 94.

The paranoid tin foil hat conspiracy theorist in me also thinks we should NEVER be matched against an original six team if we ever want to win the cup <_<

"The Canucks, are like North America, many of us have it so much better than others around the world or NHL, and we don't properly appreciate what we have."

"If Canucks fans hate Mason Raymond so bad, then you should have said something before the trade deadline! Because the Leafs would have totally taken him. I mean, can he score? Can he play a HINT of defense? WE'LL TAKE HIM! WE'LL TAKE TWO!"

Shea Weber had no chance of signing here. Philadelphia offered him a truckload of money and he took it, only to be matched by Nashville. The only real option for Vancouver was to hope he signed a 1 year deal and sign him in free agency. You'd have to be stupid to think the Canucks actually had a chance this year. Philadelphia blew it for us. Even if we had done what Philly did he still wouldn't be a Canuck.
Just because Shane Doan was CLOSE to signing here doesn't mean that we failed. The fact that we were the number one choice for him speaks wonders. He chose loyalty over a new team. Nothing we could have said trumped that loyalty, but we came close. Better than every other team.
We couldn't give Schultz what he wanted so he went to a team where he could get it. Would you really give him, unproven rookie, top minutes over vets like Hamhuis or Edler (ignore their sloppy play this season) just so he would sign here. Really?
Those aren't cursed things. Cursed is freak luck. You are just saying the management sucks for not being able to pull off moves NHL 13 style. Newsflash, that is every freakin' GM in the league.

Seriously? Could you provide a source for the travel disparity? If this is for real, I can't see how the Canucks will ever win based on pure exhaustion and jet lag. The cumulative effect would be murderous on a team's stamina.

I'm surprised no one has actually challenged Gallagher's typically useless and unfounded speculations. Kassian is "scowling" on the bench? What the hell does that mean? Maybe he's just mad he didn't capitalize on a scoring chance. Do we have a smoking gun quote, Tony? No? And reading into Schneider's quotes? He said he had to play better, but Terrible Tony thinks that somehow means he wants all the games in order to do that.

But in the end, it's not Gallagher's awful conclusions that are annoying, it's his atrocious writing "skills". How is a plague of locusts a metaphor for an injury? And "Really", twice, in successive paragraphs, as a cinching "argument".

He should have been put out to pasture long ago. But watch out, Tony, a stray locust could cause injury!

This is what they call journalism over at the Province? Your average unpaid blogger would be ashamed to have this drivel on his site. What were we supposed to get out of this? Gallagher is an embarrassment. This is the worst attempt to describe and advance the "cursed" theory which I have ever heard, being a proponent of various occult and astrological theories re: the Canucks and hockey generally, this is pathetic. Where is the thesis statement? The supporting argument is what, that Volpatti is getting sent down? C'mon. Simply awful writing.

He could have mentioned, for instance, that the Game 7/Riot occurred on the night of a full moon (incidentally, so did the recent debacle in Detroit). Or maybe something about the ley lines that intersect here in the lower mainland area. Get outta here, Gallagher! There is a curse on this team, it is the curse of the god-awful local media.
