Good job NHL team owners on the lockout.

Maybe they can counter losing their first by trading Iginla and Kippersoff for some high picks.

Any teams acquiring them likely won't have high picks.

I believe Columbus is the only team with multiple 1sts this year. (NYR and LAK and their own)

Late 1sts this year are comparable to mid to high picks from normal years. It's a great draft.

As if this day couldn't make #Flames fans puff out chest any more.... Was just told by source that #Canucks also issued Offer sheet.
2013-02-28 3:10 PM

Well that's something..... if it's true

I'm sure O'Reilly's agent has had calls from a lot of teams, but that most weren't willing to offer anything close to this. O'Reilly would realize the Avs would match a more fair offer, so he'd turn down anything he didn't think would help him leave the Avs.

It's like the Weber offer sheet situation, except the Canucks had a chance to get Weber only by a one year offer sheet where Weber forced the Preds into letting him go to UFA and then signing with us. Instead he chose the deal he thought they might not match to begin with now he's stuck there.

We couldn't try the one year deal with O'Reilly though, since he's an RFA for the next few years.

David Pagnotta@TheFourthPeriod
Seeing your questions... Told from very reliable source CGY's offer sheet was the only one he received.

And there you go, likely false anyway.

I hope, i havnt fully lost confidence in him, but if he gets us Perry or a game breaker at the TD or soon then my faith in him will be restored

his bold move better not be Weiss though...

If that's what you're holding out for, then you might as well change fan affiliations to another team now.

I thought O'Reilly demanding $5m was ridiculous as it was but now they have to qualify him @ $6.5m in a little over a year from now?!

That's just rich.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

Colorado won't match. Maybe Calgary trades iggy or kipper back to Colorado to get the picks back. Problem solved!

If he stays in Russia this year, doesn't his contract slide to next year?

That would mean they could trade him next summer. Why wouldn't they hold onto him until he can be traded for the best value?

No, the basic rule is only junior eligible players can use the contract slide. The Avs don't have a current deal with him, they just hold his rights, so they can't toll his contract or anything like that either.

In any case, there's an offer sheet on the table - they have to match it or let the Flames have him. Whichever team gets him won't be able to trade him until likely summer 2014.

Also don't picture the Flames being smart enough to go out and acquire a high pick after what we've seen today.

(Then again, i don't picture the Canucks doing it either in the same situation.)

I don't think the Avs will match although it's hard to say.
You don't want a divisional rival to get a good player out of you but what if we re-align next season?

Okay...so what exactly has MG done to try to improve the Canucks this year?

He signed a highly sought after free agent defenseman just like the great Feaster did.
The rest of our team is set for the playoffs since we are winning the division, no question.

If you like what Feaster is doing in Calgary, why don't you cheer for them. I'm sure you'll find the grass is way greener in Vancouver and Canucks fans take our team for granted.

Add..Add...Add.!!

I think our team is perfectly fine the way it is, but I'm sure Gillis will make a deadline addition like he does every season.

Hey! That's my line!

I didn't say I like Feaster. I said at least it looks like he's trying to do something.

What free agent? You mean Garrison? That was before the season started.

Course we will win the division - no one else to compete against.

I want to see this team better than they were against the Bruins in 2011.

This is easy for Colorado - Sign him, then trade him 1 year later.

If O'Reilly has any kind of production a team will snap him up like that. 5 mill isn't what it used to be.

Why isnt the Canucks doing something like this? Is MG still alive or on vacation?

We could've offersheeted Benn and erase any secondary scoring questions..

Dallas would've have matched but atleast its an attempt to make the team better, MG are you paying attention??

Still waiting on the 'bold moves' MG promised us when he was hired..

Benn is a -5 for me in my pool so far this week

There are teams that need players just to hit the cap floor, and are short on gifted players.

It won't be a problem, even with a lower cap ceiling.

Feaster is stupid. I doubt the Flames are going anywhere this year and may very well end up with what could have been a top 10 pick. Colorado is laughing to the bank.

How many gm's have made significant moves since the season started.

I'll go a step further how many GM's of GOOD teams have made any significant moves since the season started.

Do you think it's easy to just swing deals and for Gillis to win every trade. It just so happens that the rest of the league also have pretty smart GM's who aren't willing to just hand over good players to an elite team like Vancouver.

We are 5-4-3 outside our division...until we win a cup I don't believe any fan should all the Canucks "elite".

I agree that other GM's aren't going to make the ridiculous proposals the GM wanabes here on CDC keep posting...

I don't know what team is elite then.
By your description of "Elite" you just described the Carolina Hurricanes.

All of their wins are outside their division and they have won a cup.

Do you see the flaw in your logic?
