Kyosama
If they think they're going to get a better trade than a top 15 pick and a 3rd rounder in this years draft they're fooling themselves.
Legend Killer
I bet he'll stick with them for awhile. Stastny will be on his way out. saw him just this week practicing in london, looked sharp. shouldn't have a problem jumping in
Plaguez
Douche move by a desperate GM. Feaster is a joke. I don't like offer sheets but again GMs show their willingness to WAY overpay mediocre players. O'Reilly has proven nothing and now he makes 5mil a year. Ilya Mikheyev
Well this gets RO'R out of Feaster's division about next year or the end of next year unless RO'R turns into Henrik Sedin.

Ilya Mikheyev
The Avs will be out of the Flames division regardless with the realignment next season.
rb4u
Everyone is forgetting that they could also take him to salary arbitration after the 2 years are up, if his performance doesn't come close to justifying the tariff.
Trebreh
LOL the Avs just gave the lames a humilating defeat after they tried to steal their player.
elvis15
Not sure how many times this has to be said, but he can't be traded for a full calendar year. Meaning if the trade deadline is in feb like it was last year they will have to keep him right through next season. At which time he will be an RFA again with a minimum qualifying offer amount of $6.5 million

The Bookie
elvis/qwijibo - that's a really interesting point that I hadn't considered (sorry, I wasn't following the other O'Reilly stuff too closely). But was that the intended timing of the offer sheet, to bypass a regular season trade deadline?

86Viking
what i dont get is the avalanche didnt want to give oreilly a reasonable contract they wanted him to take a cheap deal like duchene did. yet this is the same team that had no problem giving david Jones a 4 year 16million dollar deal... O'reilly is far more valuable and has more upside than Jones. Definitely think Colorado Management made a mistake with the way they handled things
rb4u
I believe a player has to be qualified before he can be taken to arbitration. If the player is not qualified, and if the two sides don't negotiate a contract on their own, then the player walks as a UFA. So the Avs better hope they can repair their relationship with ROR. Otherwise they will likely be forced to give him a one-year, 6.5M qualifying offer (which ROR would likely sign, as otherwise he goes to an arbitrator who will likely award him less) or let him walk. BertuzziJr 2.0
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2013/03/01/calgary_flames_fortunate_colorado_avalanche_match_ryan_oreilly/ Haha wow, in summary O'reilly would have had to clear waivers first before coming to Calgary. Essentially they would have traded a 1st and a 3rd while someone picks him up. Feaster may lose his job after this debacle

Apples
I wished the Avs didn't match and watch o'reilly get claimed by the nucks . Most epic fail by the flames in NHL history.
