If Lindy Ruff were to accept a job as an assistant I would be all over that.
For all the people that want AV fired, I think the point they are trying to express is: When you have a Cup-caliber team almost since you have taken over as the coach and you have only once been successful getting our team past the 2nd round, that would be considered under achieving big time.
Dont get me wrong, the one year we did we got to game 7 of the cup finals. But how long does that 1 playoff run over 7 seasons really solidify him as a great coach that has proven to win in the playoffs? I would say not that well.
This is the first time in a while a top end coach has been available. Should the canucks look to add him to our staff in some capacity hell yes!!
The point is, the lack of playoff success as our coach has AV not a favourite in many peoples minds. I agree!! We have 2 great goalies, a solid defense, Sedins, Kesler when healthy and some other decent forwards. This team is very close to being a cup contender, as it has been for many years under AV. So when you dont have playoff success very often and your core gets older when do you say hey, maybe we should shake the culture up in the locker room and bring in a new coach?
Rather get a new coach, then start trading off key players on the team, or giving away players who dont get fair ice time under AV. I still to this day hate recalling when AV called Hodgson out and said he was healthy to play when after he got a second opinion it was deemed he was injured. From that point on I knew the Canucks best prospects in many years was never here to stay, he was going to want out. I couldnt blame him either. Now hes not giving Kassian consistant line mates and juggling him around all the time, Yes Kassian is a rookie and will make mistakes but everyone does, doesnt mean he should be punished. Look at his confidence level now? Its a shame, to me atleast
