God bless Chavez, he would have been a much better leader than Harper.

i actually have to agree on this..

chavez was an elected leader of his people. As much as you disagree with his policies, its extremely disrespectful the way the harper government has treated his death..

at least have a little humanity.

chavez wasnt dead 5 minutes and they were talking of "improving relations" in a good riddance your dictator is dead now we can do business type of tone....

there are far far faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar nastier regimes in the world that we have perfectly good relations with. If a canadian head of state died (relatively) early in life of cancer, and a country canada has bad relations sent out such a message 5 minutes later. there would be a major uproar.

He's just jealous that the people are genuinely mourning the loss of their leader. If anyone needs their worldview challenged it's Harper.

They're right. He used the man's death to make a political point in very cynical and condescending language - pretty much what we've all come to expect from Harper Inc.

Harper = Globalist
Chavez = Not

Doubt anyone would shed a tear if Harper passed away. In fact some people might just start a celebration because they hate him so much. He has really damaged Canada's reputation during his tenure.

No no its not like that at all, Harper and Chavez would always be razzing each other at the annual dictator's conference. They definately had a good relationship like that.

The fun part is, you can say the same thing about every other "western" "first-world" "developed-nation" leader.

Funny how the west is all about democracy and elections- until they don't agree with whom the people elected.
Hamas is example one
Chavez is example two.

Don't you know, human rights abusing dictators are good just as long as they provide an effective counterweight to the evil USA, the West and their capitalist corporate interests?

That said, though, you'll never hear the same words from Harper whenever a Saudi king or any other dictator who's an ally of the US dies.

The irony is, we have a political figure who says what we're all thinking instead of the usual hogwash, and suddenly he's the insensitive one.

Did you really agree that Hugo Chavez's regime was and is better than Harper's in terms of standard of living, economic prospects, and guaranteed freedoms as set out in a constitution? If so, $700 CAD gets you a one-way ticket to Caracas.

I would say we have all of those things in spite of Harper.

Are you asking if the standard in living is better in Venezuela than Canada? If so of course the answer is no. But if you are asking leader improved the standard of living for his people more the question gets a bit harder to answer. Chavez did alot for the poor in Venezuela and can't say the same for Harper in Canada, just ask the First Nations. Regardless of what you think of Chavez, Harpers comments immediately following the death of a popular world leader were in poor taste.

Are you serious? Chavez decimated his economy. He armed gangs of thugs to go around his enforcing his policies on a grassroots level. He also stole billions of dollars from his people and turned his own family into some of the richest people in the world.

Anyone else find it strange that Chavez had to go to Cuba for medical treatment? Surely such a successful socialist state has its own top end doctors and hospitals.

And no, this is not democracy. Yes he won an election. But he also used state media and militia groups to crush his opposition. He changed his constitution to keep himself in power as long as possible. Democracy requires more than an election. It also requires freedom of association, freedom of religion, freedom of press, etc...

Harpre probably should have waited a few weeks before making these comments, but there is a lot of truth to what he said. Chavez was a corrupt dictator in every sense of the word.

Huh so what your saying is your post wasn't geographically stupid just really racist and totally off base, is that correct? You think a bunch of "people from the middle east" on a Canucks message board are posting here about a Venezuelian dead leader, seems reasonable. Or are you saying if someone is from another country and expresses a negative political opinion about our Prime Minister it is ok to tell them to go home? This just gets stranger and stranger. Oh and did you mean take a course in reading comprehension? Reading comprehension isn't a thing you can take off a shelf, it's a learned skill.
