Little known fact ..........

To Vancouver: Richard Brodeur and a fifth-round draft pick

To New York Islanders: A fifth-round draft pick

Prior to the 1980-81 season, the Vancouver Canucks essentially got Richard Brodeur for nothing from the New York Islanders. Granted, the Canucks swapped a higher fifth-round pick for a lower fifth-round pick, but how often do those late-round picks ever work out?

Brodeur led the Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals just one season later and turned out to be one of the best goalies in team history. He was selected to play in the 1983 NHL All-Star Game and was the Canucks starting goaltender for seven seasons. Not bad for a player that was basically given to them for free.

What goalie did Wayne gretzky score the most goals against?

Answer:

29 Goals scored by Gretzky against Richard Brodeur, his highest total against any goaltender. Brodeur, Mike Liut (23), Don Beaupre (21), Kirk McLean (21) and Greg Millen (21) were the other goaltenders to allow more than 20 goals to Gretzky. In all, 155 NHL goaltenders allowed at least one goal to "The Great One."

For years, the Canucks trotted out Brodeur against Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers dynasty. Game after game after game after game.

What thanks does he get?

NOT EVEN THE RING OF HONOUR?????

Another fact to keep in mind. Three of those five goalies that allowed 20 Gretzky goals (Liut, Beaupre and Millen) DIDN'T EVEN PLAY IN GRETZKY'S DIVISION.

Brodeur played against Gretzky five times a week!
