Luongo and the last stand

Just wondering, to all those people who talk about how the team was suffering from injuries, suspensions etc. Does this not also apply to Luongo as well?

I guess most fans assume that Luongo should stand on his head even though:

-His most reliable d-man that year, Hamhuis, was injured and out for the series

-Ehrhoff was playing with a shoulder injury

-Edler had an injury as well (wrist? or back? I forget)

-Bieksa was playing with Ballard who hadn't played in a game for weeks before being sent to play against Boston's number 1 line on his first shift back

-Kesler was injured from the San Jose series

Let's review their last 4 games, shall we?

Schneider:

L, .875 save %, bad game.

OTL, .926 save %, great game

OTL, .933 save %, 28 stops, great game

W, .933 save %, 28 stops, great game

4 points.

7uongo:

L, Bellyflopping vs Calgary, .875 save %

L, Bellyflopping vs Detroit, .714 save %, lost the game. 8 GA, Ro8erto is washed up.

W, Easy SO, Nashville didn't even have a good scoring change.

OTL, Bellyflopping vs the Blues, .870 save %

3 points.

7ungo just bellyflops his way to losses every game, but 7uongo dick riders just love the taste of his chicken so they don't care if he loses the team every game he starts.

7ungo is WASHED UP.

LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!! :towel::towel::towel::towel::towel::towel::towel::towel:

If we're talking about trade incompetence involving Roberto Luongo I disagree. What team is in need of Lu's services right now and will assume the magnitude of his contract?

Please provide us some examples of MG's trade incompetence?

Now, if you're questioning his competence involving signings or non signings I'm more inclined to agree.

Luongo being here still was a HUGE mistake. And the way this season has played out is exactly the reason why.

Schneider has not looked as good as he did, flat out. He's not as consistent, he constantly fights rebounds, and he's had some problems with ugly goals on a frequent basis. He hasn't been terrible, but he's been exceptionally average, as he said himself, and it's pretty much been the entire time this season that he's been up and down.

If Luongo had been traded, this wouldn't even be a problem really. People would have to deal with it, and Schneider would be given time to get out of whatever problems or pressure he is having and right it and play to the level we were use to seeing from him.

But.. Luongo hasn't been traded. And Luongo has been FAR better this season than Schneider, in both wins, and numbers. Luongo had a bad game against Detroit, obviously, but his numbers wouldn't even of been so gaudy had Schneider not been sick and Luongo had to stay in.. though AV has a thing for not pulling Luongo anyway so who knows there. But outside from that Detroit game, and perhaps the St. Louis game where he had some bad bounces against him.. he's been VERY good almost evey start.. which goes with his record, where there's only been two games where he didn't get at least a point.. and in all of those games, he was pretty damn good, enough that without the Detroit game, he was top 2-3 in numbers all around other than wins, which he had been creeping up on.

So.. now you have a "Oops.." thing, where suddenly, Luongo is being Luongo and the good consistent goalie he's been in the regular season, and Schneider is showing some growing pains. And you're in the position you need to make a trade pretty damn quick, because you have holes to fill.. and you need it now. Not only is Schneider's contract cheaper, and likely more appealing to teams with getting more back, Luongo looks more like the "right now' guy, with Lack waiting in the wings.

Gillis REALLY messed up by not trading a goalie as far back as the last trade deadline. Not trading one after the playoffs, before the season in general, and still saying he's going to keep both. Because he's put himself in a no win situation. With Schneider struggling, he can't say "Well we didn't know he wouldn't be as good as he was." because he hasn't been. And it's compounded by Luongo's play. If Schneider does anything but succeed and get the team deep into the playoffs, people will flip out for not keeping Luongo. Luongo won a lot of fans and the media over by how he handled things.. if he was traded before, most people would still be saying it was time for him to go. Now there's a lot of "Not so fast.." that just wasn't there before.

Not really a shot at either goalie. Luongo's been great, and this is the first time Schneider's ever shown any kind of inconsistency or problems in 50+ NHL games, so logically you'd figure he'd turn it around again. It's more a shot at Gillis. The goalie situation backfired on him completely. He's basically screwed himself over and is doomed to look bad unless whatever goalie he picks wins the cup or looks great trying deep in the playoffs. I think everyone here can admit things would've been so much better on these forums and in general had he just traded a goalie and saved us from billions of goalie threads and questions about which goalie should be running with the ball.

Marty and the like don't constantly have meltdowns in games, and let in 8 goals in the stanley cup finals, and do this multiple times in every playoff run.

This is so simple, how can you not understand? Whether or not you want Luongo gone, you must be able to understand the reason many people do. Stop acting like it makes no sense.

edit : also pretty tired of this "He took us to the SCF game 7" BS. our team was stacked as hell then. If we didn't make it really deep or win the cup, then it's a disappointment, and it was.

He did the absolute furthest thing from putting the team on his back. He just managed to keep the number of meltdowns in net to a sustainable number to get us deep in the playoffs. (until the finals at least). that isn't even remotely the same as "him getting us to the stanley cup finals". almost any goalie would have "gotten us there" as well, with the team we had then.

Goals Against Average (GAA) – 8.05

Goals Against Average in Vancouver – 0.67

Wins at Home 3-0

Wins in Boston 0-3

Save Percentage in Vancouver .979

Save Percentage in Boston .773

Goals Allowed in Vancouver 2

Goals Allowed in Boston 15

Pre game 7 stats. He SUCKED in BOS but the game was at home I would have started Schneids after game 3 in BOS but Lu was solid at home. You didn't watch the same game as me if you think the fowards/ D were sh!tting their pants for game 7- they were terrified of losing.
