[Rumour] Ryan Miller’s ‘days are numbered’ in Buffalo

Recommended Posts

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet, according to Nick Kypreos, Ryan Miller's days in Buffalo are numbered:

Through thick and thin, Ryan Miller has been the Buffalo Sabres’ go-to guy. There are some rumblings that might change, though.

During the first intermission of Tuesday’s Vancouver Canucks-Columbus Blue Jackets game, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reported that Miller’s “days are numbered” in Buffalo.

The number of days might be fairly high, however, as Kypreos notes that a weak market could force the Sabres to wait until this summer or even the 2013-14 season to make a move.

The concept of moving Miller probably seems outrageous because there are many times when he appears to be one of the only bright spots for a fledgling Sabres squad.

Still, he’s not getting any younger at 32 and the team might want to shed his $6.25 million cap hit if they’re not a contender with him, anyway.

Miller’s current deal expires after 2013-14, making his departure easier to stomach if the front office doesn’t feel confident about his future with the team and simplifying a trade because he lacks an albatross contract.

It would definitely make sense. Next year is the last year of his contract and if you watch some of his interviews, you can tell that he's sick of losing here and wants a real shot at the cup.

The only problem with the trade is that our backp Enroth sucks and is inconsistant for the most part.

Also look for the Sabres to unload Vanek for the same reasons. Vanek will most likely be looking for a raise or at least to stay at his current salary of just over 7 mill. per year. As great as he is, he isn't worth that kind of money anymore.

It has become obvious that our roster needs to be blown up and rebuilt.

Can you imagine how good 'nucks could be if they could pick up Vanek next year for maybe one or two first round picks and a decent prospect. The Canucks could trade Luongo or Schneider to another team for at least one first rounder and a prospect for sure.

Not a snowballs chance would the Sabres trade Cody for Luongo. Cody is the franchise's future. If Miller is traded it would be because the Sabres would want a return on him that would help their future. With the Sabres horrible defense Luongo would get killed every night he played so it would be pointless to trade a 32 y.o. goalie for a 33 y.o goalie.
