Tyson Giuriato @TysonGiuriato
Manny Malhotra is on the Chicago Wolves bench tonight serving as an assistant coach. @theshaves

Wonder if it's going to be temporary, or permanent.

Maybe they're even getting him ready to take over for AV! ;)

Yes, that was sarcasm

He has been promoted for tonight. If he does well, who's to say it's not?

Real happy if they keep him in our organization. Go get'em Manny-best of luck in your next career-stage! Maybe he's got some Scotty Bowman in him?...

I disagree.

By saying 'serving as' makes it sound temporary.

Good on Malhottra. Class act. Would still think he'll look for a job as a player in the offseason

Wait. Is he done as a player now? Did the team FORCE this guy to retire when he said he felt okay to play?
Malhotra's one of the nicest players I've seen on this team, and if there's a rift between him and the team I'm taking his side.

Couldn't think of anyone more qualified to help teach our prospects. Best of luck in that role Manny.

The big club seems to be missing him, wish we could have him behind the bench, even if he didnt do much. Dont know if its possible for a player under contract to be behind the bench.

(I assume there is a max. number of people allowed behind the bench as well...) But I'd rather of him stayed around the big team.

The team (GM/Coach/Staff) and Manny can disagree without there being a 'rift'. Not everything in the world is so easily categorized. If there WAS a rift -- Manny would likely be at home discussing options with his agent, not helping the team that he has a rift with.

Pro Athletes are some of the most competitive people in the world (obvious, I know) - so it stands to reason he still wants to play. But I don't think this is an issue you have to take a side on. Gillis has hurt his team by taking out one of, if not the, best faceoff guy in the league. You don't make that decision easily. So you have to give Gillis some benefit of the doubt that he believes in the reason he pulled Manny off the ice.

You can argue whether the decision is right or wrong, no doubt, but I don't think it's fair for people to believe it's a disindigenous decision that's caused a rift.

So, with that, great for Manny for taking this terrible circumstance and making the best of it. He's a bright guy and it's great to see him still in the game, and as a fan, still with the team.

NHL Player... AHL Assistant Coach.

I wonder if Manny thinks of it as a promotion.

He could possibly not be done as a player but I doubt he will be back, He may be coaching his contract term out and then attempt to sign with another team. I Doubt that another team would take a chance on him if they watched the same footage AV and GMMG has, scanned the same medical records and talked to top eye doctors. Players are passionate about what they do and sometimes cannot accept when a career is done if it isnt on there own terms and how they imagined it would happen, to their own detriment.

Since our on-ice strategy seems to be flagging so much I think that Manny could conceivably get better results than AV right now.

Manny is a guy that the team would go to war for.

Motivationally it would be a step up, I think.

I TOTALLY agree. They would go to war for him. Not to mention he is one of the most articulate, intelligent, well spoken players you will ever find. A the very least he should be running our PK and working on faceoffs with our centers at the NHL level.

One thing that stood out for me is that no Canuck player or coach was happier for Tanev when he scored his first goal. You could see it on his face. That unselfish quality that he really wants the guys around him to find success.......that is a hell of a good starting point for a coach imo.

You do realize that good coaches regularly get paid 2+ million per season, right?

Gillis makes over 4 million.

He has been a member since 06, I think he knows who Gillis is. He is showing income desparity in management compared to Malhotra's salary. I don't know if people say stuff like this to be a troll, put up their post count, or just cause they don't actually read the thread they are posting in.

This...^^...with the p!ss poor performance in the faceoffs of late, we could use Manny up with the big team...but as professional as players may be and as much respect Manny has among his teammates, there's always difficulties transitioning from a peer to a teacher. Nonetheless, Manny would be valuable in any role in the organization.

On another note, did anyone notice that Laurence Gilman was behind the bench with the coaching staff in Columbus last night? I only noticed it as everyone was celebrating Raymond's shoot out goal...was he there the whole game? If so, I wonder what that was all about...

Probably had his pink slip for AV and co. in his pocket. ^_^

I thought it was pretty strange too. I wonder what was up. Maybe he wanted to analyze what the coaching staff was doing during the game.
