[Report] Canucks Aggressively Pursuing Trade (Interested in Steve Ott & Derek Roy)

Recommended Posts

For the record, for centers from 2009-2010 through 2011-2012, Kesler had the 17th most points and 24th most assists. During that time, two of his primary wingers set career highs in goals (Raymond and Samuelsson, both in 09/10). Last year, when he was supposedly "a black hole offensively that makes his linemates useless," his two most frequent wingers scored at more than a 20 goal pace.

But please, keep believing this "Kesler is a third line center" nonsense. It's a great way to weed out idiots.

A playmaker who could put up decent numbers on the second line with Kesler doing what he does on the third line(and playing all special teams situations to get his minutes up) would make us much deeper than Kesler on the 2nd line and then a regular 3rd line center.

this kesler argument is stupid.

it's this simple: on paper, kesler is a 1st liner on a bad team, or a 2nd liner on almost any team.

in reality, however, he's a black hole that makes his linemates useless offensively and should therefore not be relied upon to anchor a scoring line, rather dedicating his icetime to shutting down the best players on the other team, killing penalties, and even letting him play in front of the net on the powerplay.

in other words, if you're going to play to kesler's strengths, as any successful team should do, it would be as a shutdown center, which is traditionally a 3rd line role. that isn't to say that he should have the 3rd most icetime amongst centers, or be paid like a "3rd liner" or even be third on the depth chart; it just means that he should be paired with players that complement his game and deployed in a role that benefits the team as much as possible.

Curious who the Canucks are looking at in Montreal, guessing a centre. Habbs assistant Gm was at Canucks game last night. They've had scouts watching Van a lot this season. And Bowman was watching Habs game tonight in Montreal. Bowman has also stated publicly he's looking for a centre. So I'm guessing a centre in Montreal is up for grabs. Eller? he's been rumored to be on the block before. Would Connauton and a 2nd or 3rd get the deal done?

To the Canucks?

Absolutely! We haven't been the same team since the loss of Ehrhoff.

This team is built on having a strong powerplay. Without a powerplay QB, we're lost.

Boyle, Streit, or Campbell would completely change the dynamic of this team.
