I'd assume with the K-Wings done their season (bringing back Freisen and Mallet) and Schroeder sent back to the Wolves, they now have plenty of center depth (after being woefully short just prior to that) and they need to rotate everyone in.

Nah, Guillaume Desbiens came back and seeing as he's Arniel's butt buddy he gets the spot over all our prospects.

Desbiens isn't a center though, so how would he affect Lain?

There is no reason to think that he wouldn't be able to earn a 4th line spot next season. I'd have no problem if Lapierre moved to the wing (assuming he's resigned).

The only concern would be the lack of ice time affecting any development. If he got a 15- 20 min in Abbotsford (fingers crossed) I'd assume he would be better off there, but if he's only being used as a faceoff specialist instead of a shutdown C than hopefully he can make the cut to stay with the Canucks.

hm... the bottom 6 position is really getting interesting now... I mean for our bottom 6 C, we currenly have:

Roy

Lappy

Ebbett

Assuming we don't re-sign Ebbett and Roy,

We still have a bottom 6 C position open to either Lain, Schroeder, Gaunce or Mallet. It will be interesting to see who makes the 4th line center role next year at training camp.

I am starting to wonder will Lain make Mallet expendable....

Yes. The Canucks play a puck possession game, here's the catch if the other team starts every stoppage with them having it the Canucks are left to run around until the next face off. When we had Malhotra it was the other way around in our end. AV likely more so than any coach sens out lines based on where the face off is rather than matching lines. Yep it's face -offs we're talking one of the most important factors in the Vcr game. It's an area MG failed to address at the deadline...

He traded for a center so we don't have to use wingers, also knowing that the best face-off man was on his way back from injury.

The only center that would then have to be replaced would be Lapierre, who's fine. I'd rather have Roy than some plug who is slightly better at face-offs.

I see Lain as more of a 4th line center. If he finds a way to contribute offence, then he has 3rd line center upside, but without it Mallet is more likely to be used in that role. Both play with energy, skate well and are physical, but Mallet has much more offensive ability and Lain will be a key faceoff guy.

That leaves us with Schroeder and Gaunce as potential 2nd line centers in future. Either could really take off and have 1st line upside, but it's not that likely. What's more likely is they end up competing for top 6 minutes and one becomes expendable as a result.

Can someone sum up what's happening with Lain? Is he only getting spot duty or something? The fact he has no points and 10 games looks worrisome. However I know how Arniel has his favorites like AV.

No points in ten games is fine for Lain. The fact that he's played as many as ten is a good sign in itself.

We have such low expectations for our prospects "as long he's cracking the AHL lineup it's a good sign"

It's a good sign because we've had as few as 6 prospects per game in Chicago at times this season. With an organization like the Wolves, as long as he's playing, we should be content.

yes its a good sign means he's good enough to stick with the club. Jan Sauve has been struggling to stick with the Wolves which is a bad sign. stop whining

When the veterans came back first players who went out were Lain and Blomstrand. And Blomstrand's been looking good while Lain is a faceoff/defensive specialist.

I forgot Blomstrand was with the Wolves. How has he been doing?

On topic - Lain's size will give him a leg up making the NHL, whether that's in a year or in three. I think next season in the AHL we'll see him used in the shutdown 3rd line center role that Manny used to play for us. As much as it sucks about Manny's injury, having him as an assistant coach on the Wolves is gonna do wonders for Lain's defensive game. I'm not so worried about 0 points in 10 games, any offense he provides on top of his role is just an added bonus.

So he might affect Blomstrand, sure, but only a center would knock Lain out of the lineup - unless they're so badly managed they'd prefer to stick a winger in his place.

At this point, I just hope they're eliminated from the playoff race and we can bring up guys like Lain, Blomstrand and Corrado. Corrado could use time off to train and take a few optional skates I'd think, and then maybe slot in for a game. Lain and Blomstrand could see time as well, but only Lain being that likely if we wanted to take Ebbett out of the lineup.

I would like to see Lain take a few NHL faceoffs...as in take Ebbett out for a bit.

Hopefully he gets called up as a part of the black aces, maybe not to play but just to be around the team some more. That, and if he can win a faceoff in the NHL he's automatically a better option than Andrew Ebbett.
