Buffalo needed scoring and had plenty of defensive depth, Carolina vice versa. Leopold is now [83] overall and Ruutu is [86]. Ruutu holds the number 1 center position for the Sabres while Leopold is the number 3 defencemen. The verdict is clear isn't it? Buffalo came out on top, just slightly. Buffalo receives: Francois Beauchemin+2014 4th round pick Anaheim receives: Robyn Regehr Verdict: A year ago, Anaheim would have been said to have come out on top, just slightly, as Regehr provided a shutdown presence which Beauchemin did not possess as well. Today, Beauchemin remains with the Sabres as a top 4 [83] defencemen while age has caught up to Regehr as he dropped down to a top 6 [79] defencemen playing on the Sharks. It can be clearly seen that the GM for the Sabres knew what he was doing who retooled the future while remaining competitive.
