Poor mans Iginla. Hate to speculate this much but based on move they may bow out of Iginla stakes as essentially they are getting Iginla lite

Steep price to pay for a 33 year old pending UFA.

That would be like us trading Gaunce for Morrow. No thanks.

This.

I don't know what the Penguins are thinking. Just the other day I read that the Penguins consider Joe Morrow their best prospect. If that's the case then why are you trading him for Brendan Morrow when there is Jarome Iginla on the market as well? Why not just trade Morrow and a pick to the Flames for Iggy? But then again I'm not a GM and I don't actually know what is going on. Perhaps Calgary is asking too much for Iginla? I mean I can see that. Feaster is an idiot.

Yikes. Unless Pittsburgh's getting more in return or Morrow plays huge and they win the Cup, I give this trade to Dallas big-time.

They have Maata, Despres, Pouliot, Harrington and Dumoulin all in their system already. We don't have that kind of depth in any position with our prospects.

So? They're still not getting good value.

For a 1st round pick that was just drafted a year ago, they could be aiming higher than a player like Morrow.

I'd say it's a fair trade. We're just so used to bargains here in Van.

Seems like their defensive depth would be the bigger issue. After Letang, who is a star, you have Paul Martin -- who isn't too bad himself. Then Niskanen, Despres, Orpik, Engelland.

I would be more worried about that back end right now than anything.

Loaded up front and thin on defense. Goalie depends on where Flower is with his consistent game.

If this goes through and they get Iginla...

Kunitz - Crosby - Iginla
Neal - Malkin - Dupuis/Morrow
Kennedy - Sutter - Morrow/Dupuis
Cooke - Vitale - Glass

Lets just do the easy thing and hand Pittsburgh the Cup

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

I would say it was fair if Morrow was a few years younger. At this point, I'd give up a 2nd round pick for him at most. He's more of a depth/support player now. A guy like Chris Higgins brings as much as him.

But they're obviously going for it this year, and have the prospect depth to do it, so good for them.

They already were a contender. This just adds a bit more grit for them up front.

Them winning the cup won't come down to this trade. It will come down to Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury, like it always does.

Edit: And I doubt they get Iginla and Morrow.

Higgins is similar production wise, but Morrow hits more and has more heart and soul than Higgins.

doesnt make that much sense. there top two lines have right wingers locked and loaded. they needed another left winger they got it. plus the price for jarome would be beyond steep. Now they can add a defencemen as well as morrows hit isnt exceptionally high. Morrow+Dman+prospects that would go if they dealt jarome> jarome

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

Iginla makes too much. With Morrow they still have cap to get a top 4 d-man. Morrow + top-4 dman > Iginla

I wouldn't go that far...Morrow's production may have slipped and is basically on Higgins' level, but he still brings a lot more. He hits like a freight train, sticks up for teammates, and was the Dallas captain for a reason. But I agree that what he brings still isn't enough to pushes Pittsburgh over the top.

Just gave up their #1 D prospect for a 34 year old complementary winger that they don't really need.

Neal, Richards, Ribeiro, Ott, Ryder, Morrow.

That'll be 6 potential top 6 forwards they've traded away recently.

They've either lost all those guys for nothing, or lost the trade. What's up with these stars? They're going to be losing Roy, Whitney, and Jagr pretty soon too.

Either really poor management, or nobody likes playing there.

At least they could potentailly win this trade.
