MoneypuckOverlord
For a supposed "horrible" player he's put up 163 points in 230 games in the previous three seasons... A lot better then some of our players (booth). Haven't watched the Canes play in a while though so I have no idea what's going on with him. billabong
If we claimed him u can say bye bye to either Raymond or Higgins...if he was a ufa at the end of the year then he would have been claimed Forsure but he isn't the answer at his price tag so I agree with mgs decision
boxiebrown
Some people get confused and think scoring in a shootout means you are a good hockey player. Reality is he's a horrible 5v5 player. Wouldn't even be in the NHL if it wasn't for special teams, and the fact that Carolina has had no depth since they won the cup.
Mrock-763
No worries. We're going after a bigger fish Ovie Now imagine a Pittsburgh vs Vancouver, Crosby vs Ovechkin Stanley Cup Finals... whoa $$$$$$ VS
DeNiro
Don't know why people are that surprised. Jokinen is not a very good player. At least not at 3 million dollars. Teams can get players similar to him for much cheaper.

elvis15
How much cap space does the team have right now with all the injuries?
Dion Phaneuf
Shocked but I suppose that teams didn't put in a claim given that he is an offence-first player, not an addition that helps out a lot in the playoff grind. Note that he was excellent for Carolina in 08/09 (last time the team made the show?)

86Viking
wow im shocked he didnt get claimed. Especially by us he could have been used as a center for now def an upgrade over ebbett on 3rd line. Maybe Gillis didnt want to take on salary to leave him with less at the deadline. Carolina could use a depth d man, maybe we can still make a trade for him? J. Jokinen for Alberts late pick or a contract dump for further roster space Maybe this is what other teams were thinking as well. Cant believe we didnt make a claim to nab him for free though, Id really like to ask MG that question, hopefully a reporter does, would really like to hear his answer
oldnews
These kinds of deals do happen, although I would not give up Alberts, particularly when the price is at best a 7th round pick or Mullen type roster dump. McGratton cleared waivers only to be dealt to the Flames shortly after. Teams could be demanding to send back a roster spot/salary - although Carolina apparently values the roster spot more than anything at this point. Going into the TD, it could be that the realistic destinations for Jokinen have bigger things in mind, or no room for him.
86Viking
if ballard had a lower cap hit i could see Carolina being interested in him, but depends how their cap issues are going forward or their internal cap. Dont see them wanting a forward in return. Still would like to see him here, if its a shot with kesler aswell as 2nd pp or even on the 3rd line thats good 2way play with scoring higgins jokinen hansen-- loooks good to me
FireGillis
With hindsight, reading this thread is funny. Shows once again that forum posters don't know more than GMs when they kept saying, wow why waive him when you can trade him for a draft pick. Looks like canes probably tried that and had no takers and him clearing waivers shows that teams didn't even want him for free.
TotesMagotes
ya i cant believe he is getting waived, and I was scrutinized when i posted raymond for him was an underpayment by us? great 2ndliner who can play center, and awesome shootouts But doubt he falls to us...maybe back to dallas? 86Viking
Really? Is that why he got waived? Raymond for Jokinen is an over-payment by us. Would you ever see Raymond getting waived? Don't be stupid. He's an okay 2nd line center on a bad team.
TotesMagotes
Raymond being a no show every playoffs thats a cause for concern when he is apparently one of our better forwards. We dont have a forward who can play top 6 or top 9 and play all 3 forward positions, help our struggling pp. Would I trade a soft left winger who we probably cant retain in raymond for jokinen, yes I would. Jokinen is very versatile and you said he plays on a poor team so if he came here would he not be playing with better players?
86Viking
I'm not against acquiring Jokinen through waivers, but trading away any roster player, much less Raymond, one of our most productive forwards is pretty darn stupid. And no, it means he would be getting quite a few less minutes playing on the Canucks, and possibly even scratched a lot of the time, especially when Kesler is back, and now you ask yourself would it really be worth trading away a player with the 2nd most goals on the team for a streaky shootout specialist who might be scratched most of the time? There is a reason he has been waived, it's because he has been playing poorly. Would he be a good depth player on the 3rd line? Absolutely. Does it make sense trading away a roster player in order to acquire a depth player? No, no it doesn't.
