theminister
45]Chris Johnston@reporterchris I'm told there's been some interest in Jussi Jokinen from other NHL teams. He won't be sent to the AHL if he clears waivers. Gone.

elvis15
I think he will. It's basically a top 6 F for free.
Pears
If he gets past Feaster I'll be shocked.
Belsy91
They may be making room for a trade, Canucks I'm sure are interested but so are 10 other teams in the waiver order.
sampy
Bizarre move. The Canes are nowhere near the cap - they have 12 million in cap space. Jokinen's underlying numbers are pretty good - next to Ruutu, perhaps the best on the Canes. 58.2% faceoffs, +6.6 relative corsi, 49.1% ozone starts, 51.6% finishes, faces decent quality opposition. Hasn't scored in 7 games, but really, what gives? Maybe a disgruntled aspect here? Find it hard to believe no one would give up a pick for him. Perhaps this is the fake Dregar account? Nope. Just bizarre. Everyone's gonna want this guy.
Avery16
I don't understand this move by the Canes. They have to know he claimed, surely they could of dangled him and received at the very least a late round pick..... Jokinen to anywhere for a 5th rd pick seems like a steal.... I know it isn't much but its more than they're going to get through the waiver process..
theminister
What about Ottawa? I'd be very surprised if Jokinen dropped to them and they didn't claim him.
Canada Hockey Place
So all through the lockout owners whine about losing money. And now Jokinen (2nd yr of 3yr contract) gets waived the day after they give Semin a 5 year extension. OK then.
theminister
LaRose was just activated so probably the reason. Hopefully MG can pick him up, less pressure on a Lu trade.

86Viking
they could have dumped him for a pick or prospect easily. Quite a few teams before us will put a claim in for him before us, which is unfortunate. Too bad MG didnt listen to me and try to acquire him earlier... I figured he would be a good 2nd line addition who could fill in at center and help in many areas of the game. Oh well lets all hope and wait till 9am tomorrow, but im 98% sure he gets claimed before us, holding out 2% hope though!!

Phamda
Capgeek has the Canucks at 51 contracts with 4 that are "slide rule" eligible (http://www.capgeek.com/canucks/reserve-list/). So, assuming that Gaunce, Jensen, Corrado, and McEneny all slide, that leaves 47 contracts on the 50-man Reserve List. That would be enough room for adding the players you've mentioned. Of course, Capgeek could be wrong. Where are you reading that the Canucks are at 49 contracts?
boxiebrown
Could be a steal on waivers but the cap issue we are in I'd rather pass on him. Plus another small forward no thx. Plus don't think he will be make it to us on the waiver wire. Still holding out hopes for Roy or ott.
