k... probably not but it would be stupid not to put in a claim and see what happens... sometimes waivers surprise... like Jussi being there in the first place.

Maybe just that they don't want to take on any salary at all in a trade and no-one with the cap space and in the playoff race is willing to give up a draft pick for this summer?

It's quite possible the Canucks were contacted about him but wanted to move a contract/cap hit back rather than a pick. Without knowing Gillis' potential plans, it's hard to say we'll be able to fit him in if everything else goes as he hopes so he may want that roster spot and cap room free.

he won't fall to us. Too many crappier teams out there. He'd be a nice addition for free though.

We'd be in front of Ottawa in line.

Detroit is below us and they could use a body. Maybe the Isles? I'd guess Dallas too as the are shedding bodies and have history with him but I think they are trying to trim payroll down to it's barest bones.

I don't think we are... when you make a claim, you go to the bottom of the list regardless of your team ranking. So unless Ottawa claimed someone since we got Sestito... we are behind them. We are at or very near the bottom right now in waiver order.

He is a better option than what we have now, but he certainly isn't what we are looking for to help us get a bit bigger and able to compete in the playoffs against the huge forwards of the opposing teams we will be facing. I suspect Gillis will hold fire and try to get something else to pan out.

There is nothing in the CBA that I've seen that changes your spot in the list because you'd made a claim in the past. The only exception would be if you lost a player to waivers and then the team that claimed him put him back on waivers, then you'd get first rights to get him back.

another stat to look at is his faceoff %.... 58% this year 55% last year.....if he was available why didnt Gillis trade 4th round pick for him?

I'd rather have Jussi than Ebbett. He is much better at faceoffs and is bigger than Ebbett even though he isn't that much bigger. He could bounce back next year but his contract at 3 million might be a bit too much for us with the cap going down. We should claim him this year and maybe we could buy him out next year if he doesn't perform or waive him. We definitely need another center or two and he can play any forward position.

Yah I couldn't find anything that said the waiver order changed due to pickups either but I do remember that in the past (maybe previous CBA?) at any rate all Gillis can do is put a claim in and wait and see.

Why would they put him on waivers? They easily could have traded him for a pick, even a low one, since it would be better than getting nothing.

Another missed opportunity by MG.

I don't think that is true.

from now through the end of the 2013 regular season, is determined by the “Club having earned the lowest percentage of possible points in the League standing at the time of the request for Waivers.”

Who knows, he could ignite with a guy like Kesler.

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Jokinen-Kesler-Burrows
Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen
Higgins-Lapierre-Pinnizotto/Weise

Could be some unreal depth, and if he doesn't work out, just swap Higgy in his spot

I could be wrong, I will try to track down where I read that other clause... I know I saw it recently, but am not sure of the source or how reliable it was.

Can't pass up the chance for a potential 2nd line center without having to trade a player. with injured reserve, we can afford him too. Deal with cap issues in the off-season, like half the other teams will have to. Probably won't get him, but it's worth a shot!

Teams most likely wanted Carolina to retain part of his cap hit.

Agreed. Only problem is: if we do end up getting him, he'll probably end up being misused (or unused) by AV.

People who label others as bandwagoners, people who tell other people "how" to cheer for their team, "how" they should act or what they should wear to "support" their team, people who only want to hear positive thoughts and don't want to read about how the team can do better - these are people who are insecure and uncomfortable within their own skin.

I'll support my team the way I choose, thank you very much. You can choose to support your team the way you want to, and I won't judge you on it as long as you don't try to force your beliefs on me. I'll also be quick to point out where I think the team can do better, because identifying that there is a problem is the first step to fixing it; denying or ignoring a problem won't solve anything.

Go Canucks Go.

That doesn't make any sense. Surely they should know he'll be picked up. Might as well get a pick for him instead.

It's easy, he wasn't producing at all lately in Carolina. They were unhappy with him and nobody was willing to trade anything for him, so they put him on waivers. Obviously hoping somebody picks him up and clears them of his cap space.

Those saying the cap hit is such a worry, forget it. He actually in a way increases Gillis' flexibility, in that he can be packaged in a trade, sparing one of our regular roster players in getting someone like say Ribeiro. What picks would we have to give up for 3 million in salary?

He's worth grabbing. He's a fine asset for free. I doubt he gets to the Canucks.

He may be having an off year, but it's not like he's old and busted up or anything. The canes simply took on a new dynamic this year with additions that left him more our than in than before. You don't bring in Semin and Staal and not give them big minutes, so someone has to lose out, looks like it was him.

I know right...like he's misusing Hansen now. And misused Burrows by putting him with the Sedins a few years back. Or how he's continually given Schroeder more ice time this year after the kid went out and earned it.

Man. Hate it when coaches do that.

"Misused by AV"

Definition from the free offline WL Canuck Fan dictionary: This is a term commonly used by CDC posters who wish to coach the team from their arm chair perched among scattered pizza boxes and occasionally empty beer cases and often in the unfinished basements of their respective homes.. The term is not used to actually show when the coach is "misusing" a player, and the definition of this term is not actually determined by the coaching skills of the coach known as AV, but is instead used to indicate the posters disagreement of the coaches use of a particular player as seen by the poster.

Use in a sentence: "AV misuses Ballard because I like him" or "AV misused Hodgson because I like him more than I like Kesler" or "AV misuses the Sedins by keeping them together"
