Tanev will he stay a Vancouver Canuck?

His contract is over at the end on the season.... Does Vancouver have the cap space to keep him? They better because he is a solid defenseman for us and has offensive talent... He is one of the trusted defenseman and always stays calm... He will want more money, but do the Canucks have the money to make him stay?

I would be shocked if he wasn't a memeber of the Canucks next season given that he is an RFA.... However, the process could get pretty ugly if Tanev gets greedy and goes to arbitration. I would hope that he will re-sign for 3 yrs at $1.5 M per

If Tanev had offense in his game he would win the Norris (at some point in his carreer). He is THAT good. Very few players in the NHL can win the puck along the boards as efficiently and effortlessly, all while making great little passes into space for a teammate to pick up, as Tanev consistently does. He is Lidstrom like in his own zone.

Lets ask this a different way?

What would Tanev get if he went to arbitration?

I'm guessing $1.75 or $2 mill? Many solid depth defenders get $3 or $4 mill, but thats not comparable, those would be vets past their ELC who have both more leverage and stats behind them. But arbitration is for one or 2 years (someone welcome to clarify) and a ballpark guess (if someone else wants to load real comparable s?).

So we offer 3 years at $2 mill, pay at the high side but get an extra year or so; much like with Hansen! And Hansen still turned a bargain!

I'd give him a 3 year at 2M offer, see if he can step up his offense a bit in that time and keep his D play consistent. After that, re-evaluate where he's at as a player.

If he was the type of guy to put up points more often, especially if he had a really big slapshot, I could see him going for more. I think he's going to keep improving.. Also, he has a sweet wrister.
